StrangeRanger
Just called BATF to check on the status of a Form 4 I was told that due to "budget cuts and staffing changes" they are no longer able to perform status checks. So the Musk-rats have gutted ATF along with everything else And approval times now average 143 days for a paper Form 4 and 42 days for an eForm 4 Edited March 14 by StrangeRanger

StrangeRanger
The approval times are quoted directly from BATFE's website but I guess you know more than they do. As for Musk under exactly what Constitution authority is he acting? Congress established and funded all the agencies he's gutting and per the Constitution only Congress has the power to alter that funding

StrangeRanger
He's not a government employee and quite simply the existing laws have not been followed to date with respect to terminations or budget cuts. As a result the Judiciary is doing the job that Congress should be doing and reinstating things pending Congressional action. What is "the view"? Not into pop culture. inertord
I am not aware of any cuts to BATFE Mission Critical Operations Funding, short of the DEI Program Elimination? I don’t ever recall a time when so many voter mandates have been addressed/fulfilled so quickly post election 🤔 Edited March 15 by inertord
Bridgeport28A1
It was nice to be able to find out that a paper form 4 was approved. So when the first class mailing never shows up you can start the request for a certified copy. It is amazing that BATFE sends restricted tax information first class with no tracking. I wonder who has the $200 stamp and form 4 tax information?
maxfaxdude
I'm not aware of any specific ATF budget cuts. Maybe down the road???
jbrent
I just received my form 4's back in 45 days from date of mail. Very surprised, as i have experienced well over 12 month wait in the past. This was my first Thompson, a Savage built 1928A1 serial # 550XXX.

These are all MG's that require research. Suppressors tend to go faster as do other non-nefarious items like an SBR of an existing gun that requires no research. With all these replies, approval times seem to really be getting better! I am waiting on a MG. It's been 44 days today so I may hear something soon I hope 😀🤞
TJ Raccoon
May 16th ATF recieved paper copy for a trust transfer from current owner. My first, fingers crossed it's a first time go - approval.
DARIVS
Before the changes from Trump and Musk, my last Form 4 transfer took 360 days. Seeing all the later reports of shorter processing times is a ray of hope that the reforms will eventually be streamlined and things will get even better. BillinBama
Seems like NFA branch has it's act together now. I e-filed a Form 4 TRUST on last Tuesday and received the approval yesterday, 3 days for a TRUST! I've gotten less than 24 hours on an individual Form 4 but was led to believe Trusts were taking weeks if not a couple of months, so this is a pleasant surprise. I can remember when wait times were over a year, and there was no "staffing' cuts to blame.

Stampcollector
I'm a real fan of a form with the stamp stuck on it. I never wanted to efile for that reason. But im sure in the future that will be the only option. And it is much faster. Stampcollector
