68coupe
As the title implies, I'm looking to find the year of manufacture for a US Civil War relic Starr 1858 DA revolver in .44 cal. The serial number is 4460, throughout. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My own research has revealed that approximately 53,000 were manufactured from 1858 to around 1863, at which time manufacture switched to a single action version. I have a lead on a book, "Serial Numbers of U.S. Martial Arms, Volume 4", that may have the information in it. It's an expensive book, and I'd really hate to buy it, only to be disappointed. If anyone has this book, please take a look. I simply would like to know the actual year of manufacture. If anyone has any other leads on references, please share them. Thanks in advance, V/R, Karl, 68coupe
ron_brock
Karl, I can look when I get home. If you don’t hear from me by mid next week, shoot me a PM to remind me. I have the Springfield manuals on CD, but often the serial numbers are not listed. It’s a like a jackpot if you do get an actual match on a specific serial number as to which unit it was issued to.
