RoscoeTurner
Received an email from OGCA stating that the May display show and all future OGCA shows at the Roberts Centre have been cancelled due to a negligent discharge at the March meeting. Really a shame the Roberts Centre took this course of action but to me at least it is completely understandable. Hopefully OGCA will be able to find another venue in southwestern Ohio for future events.
StrangeRanger
I've already emailed OGCA reminding them that it's the OHIO Gun Collectors Association not the Cincinnati-Dayton Area Gun Collectors Association and suggesting that they look for a site in central Ohio so we all can attend more easily. Six hours on the road to walk a two hour show makes little sense and less so in the winter
RoscoeTurner
They had started having half the shows in Wilmington the other half in Cleveland.
StrangeRanger
Which resulted in having all the people from SW Ohio not coming just like most of us in NE Ohio no longer go to Wilmington. The last IX Center Show was a joke because there aren't enough of us left up here to fill it that size facility. Moving back to central Ohio would keep the show quality up because while we might lose some Cincy-Dayton people we'd probably gain a few from Columbus and a whole lot from Akron, Canton. Cleveland and Youngstown not to mention all of SE Ohio which has no good highway connection to Wilmington. It might take time to rebuild the membership in those areas but it would result in a much stronger organization and better shows. We need to regard this setback as an opportunity and act accordingly
RoscoeTurner
I was driving 8.5 hours mainly to visit with friends and attend the display show but if they settle on a location north of Dayton that ends my participation.
StrangeRanger
The display show this year has been moved to the previously scheduled Cleveland IX Center show in June, one of two shows scheduled for NE Ohio this year.
Chappy
Sorry to hear about this. I live in Texas so there is very little going on here with Thompsons. I would love to go but distance makes this difficult. Was someone carrying and had a ND or something even more egregious? Chappy
StrangeRanger
According to OGCA it was a .308 A couple of people who were there said it was a sneaked in loaded CCW Only the Clinton County Sheriff knows for sure Edited March 29 by StrangeRanger
StrangeRanger
FWIW I was there at the time but at the other end of the hall. I did not sound like a rifle, not very loud, no crack.
Don.
Nice of them to punish everyone instead of banning the schmendrick that did the dirty deed. As previously said, perfect opportunity for a change of venue and a reset.
Got Uzi
The idiot who did it is indeed banned but the Roberts Center gave OGCA the boot due to this being the second ND at the venue. OGCA will be moving to a fairgrounds (in Dayton I believe) and they still have the IX center show. Personally I think they got too comfy at the Roberts Center and grew a member base there and they only care about that region, not the entire state.
StrangeRanger
The new venue is approximately halfway between Dayton and Columbus. That's a whopping 15 minutes closer to Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Columbus etc, equidistant from Dayton and about 15 minutes farther from Cincy. It's still the Cincinnati-Dayton Gun Collectors Association masquerading as a statewide organization
