Got Uzi
I stumbled across another Griswold TSMG “jump case” and had to buy it. The case arrived yesterday and it is different that my first one (featured in the Thompson Encyclopedia series) they are different item numbers, material, interiors are different, but yet they are the same dimensions and such. I presume a different manufacturer, but it is interesting to see the differences in these.
TD.
Thanks for posting, John. Very nice1 I bet everyone that attends the Thompson Collector's Association (TCA) Show & Shoot on May 16th & 17th will be able to do an in-person comparison. If you have not attended a Thompson Show & Shoot, you really need to put this on your calendar.
jojeep
I never knew a Griswald Bag was issued for TSMG. Just about every photo you seem see of Paratroopers loading on to Planes, their Thompson SMG is out.

In 'peace time' we were issued with padded "jump cases," to protect our assault rifles when we hit the ground following a jump. But in wartime, jumping into combat, having your weapon ready to use as soon as you hit the ground was the priority. Retrieving your weapon from a "jump case", which would itself be secured to your kit, would loose valuable time, which could be a matter of life and death. johnsonlmg41
What makes these "Thompson" cases?

Got Uzi
Well it’s the perfect size for a Thompson…scaled down BAR or Garand case. An M1A1 carbine would fit, but with excess space so you tell me. Is there anything you don’t find controversy in around here?

My thought is that the shortened case was issued for use with anything that fits, and not necessarily for TSMGs only.
