Cort Tompkins
The quickly approaching TCA shoot inspired me to get out in the garage this past weekend and slap together a removeable red dot mount for my NAC 1928. Behold, the mount. It sides on the ladder of a Lyman sight and is held from the side with set screws. I used 1018 steel because I despise painting/cerakoting/etc. and I wanted to parkerize it instead. The bosses are #23 drill rod. An aluminum RMSc picatinny mount from Amazon with sufficient extra material would be a much simpler way to start ... but hey, the steel looks cool. Originally I was going to more permanently affix the adapter to this spare ladder I got from Numrich. In the end I decided that swapping ladders to go from irons to the dot would be too tedious. The final design snuggly slides on and off the original ladder. Note that a small footprint sight is required to fit between the ears of the a Lyman sight (I'm using a Holosun 507k). You can lift the ladder to get to the controls/adjustments. The empty holes are for set screws. I didn't have what I needed on hand but I've got some brass and nylon-tipped stainless set screws on the way which I'll try out. I spaced the set screws so that it's also possible to clamp the adapter on while leaving the original notch/aperture apparatus in place (so I don't lose it!). I still need to get out and shoot it, but assuming it's even close to point of aim I'll bring it to the TCA shoot this weekend.
