p51
While going through some magazines I had stashed away, I started looking at markings. This one came with an M1A1 torched kit from IMA back in the 90s. I'd never really looked at it before. Its been parkerized and though it seems in good mechincal condition, its not pretty. But notice the only markings on it. I played around to best me able to read them in a photo. Its a 20 rounder with NO other markings. Anyone have a clue when it was made and by whom? I guess it's a very early one that might have been recycled by the Army after the war started? I have American Thunder III and it's not mentioned there. TSMG28
That is an early WWII mag made by Mitchell Stamping for Auto-Ordnance. It is one of two WWII patent date mags made by Mitchell, but this version has an incorrect patent date on the first line. It should be AUG. 24 instead of AUG. 20. If you remove the floorplate, you will find MSCO stamped on the inside of the backstrap.
rpbcps
It is mentioned in the topic above http://www.sturmgewehr.com/dalbert/MGBoards/Mags/Maguire Era XX Patent Date 20-24_Web.JPG You could also invest in Roger Herbst book, 'Thompson Submachine Gun magazines 2917-2021', which explains all you need to know about all the Thompson magazines that were produced. p51
Thanks. Are these really rare?
TSMG28
Not common, but not rare either. My book explains the details of all of the mags made for the Thompson. It will be available at the TATA S&S, or on Amazon.
