Testing out the Suomi Drum

First time that I shot the drum. My last K ( tube gun) had too much space in the mag well and wouldn’t attach. All 5 that I have ran great.

As previously noted - original Swedish K guns do not take drums. You have to take off a VERY little bit on the receiver where the top of the drum kisses up against the bottom of the gun.

My old one had too much space. I figure either the previous owner removed too much while trying to fit a drum, or the person who completed the original build was off a bit.

Some additional good news, I bought several Pike Arms barrels so I could save some wear on my original and they worked great.

The original Swedish K guns (M45)  had the removeable mag well, and were designed to accommodate drums...  Have I missed something?

No. The original guns are not made to use drums. The removable magwell was only there for use of coffin mags. To use Finnish Suomi drums, you have to remove some metal off the receiver. I never modified pre-sample guns that did not take drums. I did have to very slightly file some metal from my Pearl gun back when I first got it so that it would take drums.

Gotcha. I wondered why the coffin mags always fit perfect, while my drums were hit and miss, pending a bit of filing.

I sent my Wilson tube gun to John Andrewski to modify so I could use the drum mags and it runs great. Modifing the drum is not the way to go you must modify the receiver for it to work correctly.

What would you modify on the drums to make them sit right? Grind some meat off the metal shell?

John Andrewski told me it is not the drum that you modify it is the tube itself. He removed a small bit of metal from the tube so that the drum can fit high enough in the receiver to feed correctly. The drums were not made for the K . They were made for the Finnish Suomi SMG. That   is what he did to my K and it run perfectly. FWIW.
