DLO/Andrewski Sterling

Recommended Posts

Just dusted off this gun and did a bit of shooting. What a fine machine. Plus, the magazines are the best ever...

I love mine. I have one of the CPS guns built off of a DLO Sterling receiver and it’s definitely my favorite smg to shoot. It’s stupidly controllable, ultra smooth, and just an all-around great little gun.IMG_5288.thumb.jpeg.7656b79d027254abdf38c7d48499d7ed.jpeg

Come on Debbie Downer, after years of practice I am now able to deploy the stock in less than 15 minutes.

Agree, have you seen the price of Sterling magazines lately! Out of control.

Indeed I have! It could always be worse though. The HK guys are paying twice that for German-made MP 5 magazines. And pity those poor bastards who own MP18s and need trommel mags. The last two I bought were about $1600 each;  repros aren’t cheap either, running in the $200-$300 range for questionable quality and reliability.

For anyone needing Sterling magazines Apex still has them at a somewhat reasonable price of $52. Barrels are the current Sterling hens’ teeth. But again, if anyone is looking, Old Arms of Idaho has complete kits, including barrel and one magazine, for around $600. The kits I got from them were a mixture of saw cut and torch cut but were complete (minus the tube, of course.)It’s been a while since I’ve seen any niw Sterling magazines. I have about two dozen, which is more than a lifetime supply so I’m not really looking for any more.

I too, as per my way of collecting, bought tons of spare items/accessories when I purchased the Sterling a few years back. Mag pouches, mags in wrap, spare bolts, ejectors etc.

Speaking of magazine prices, I own a M.P.18,I and was able, after a ton of sleuthing to  find a guy in AK who's dad had passed and he found 10 of the OEM 20 round stick mags. I bought them all. $400 each.

I love my Sterling, DLO tube, Andrewski build ( for the previous owner who passed on unexpectedly )
Another great reminder when talking to an executor and hearing you missed the advertised gun you wanted, ask what else is coming up!
I selected mags years ago when APEX still had a large selection and even Patchett marked mags.
APEX has a nice supply of original slings now, and every so often we find original and new made barrels in a box of odd material.
If you can figure how to use LANCHESTER barrels like Sterling did on the original builds, we have those too.
The only think I dislike about deploying and stowing the stock is that it can chip the paint on the body tube.

It took me a number of years to find the proper STERLING marked bayonet to put on the SMG.
Before that I had an issue #5 Jungle Carbine bayonet on the gun.
