skoda
I came across this photo of some British Auxillary Units, a WWII 'stay behind the lines after the Germans invade the UK' type organization. It shows three of the soldiers with what are clearly Mark III Stens but with some kind of wooden stock that I have never seen in any other photographs. Has anyone here seen anything like this? StrangeRanger
They aren't SMLE buttstocks that have been modified to fit the Sten. What they are I can't even guess. Maybe someone in their unit was a hobbyist woodworker?
quartermaster-1939-69
Yes, from memory 11 were contracted from Enfield for trials. I would say nothing came of them for the MkIII but obviously a wooden stock was adopted for the MkV.
skoda
Do you mean that Enfield made 11 wooden stocks for the Mark III and we're seeing three of them in this photo?
quartermaster-1939-69
Yes, sorry. They were made for trials.
