M1A1 at the veterans museum in Chehalis, WA

Recommended Posts

I am a conductor at the tourist railroad right next to this museum and we used their meeting room tonight for our quarterly meeting.

I hadn't looked at the museum for a long time, and forgot they had a nice weapon collection. I saw at least two Grease Guns but couldn't get shots due to angles of the glass. However, I managed this shot of the M1A1 on display.

I couldn't see any markings on the wood and there was a curiously thick parkerization that I couldn't make any inspector marks there, either.

The bolt looked odd to me, in the space behind the charging lever...

If you're ever passing between Seattle and Portland on I5, it's worth a stop. Its a small museum but they do have some nice stuff there.

Yes, like I am doing with my local museum, we need to support them and keep the history of our respective nations alive for the future generations.

In the UK we have some museums closing now due to lack of people going through their doors....and the exhibits are lost for future generations.

The M1 looks like some type of replica or toy or airsoft type gun to me. Perhaps, a DENIX model.

Denix doesnt make an M1 Tommy and I got pretty close to it and doesnt at all look like an airsoft to me. I couldn't get photos but the reciever is hollow like a real one with the right thickness. Also, the markings look legit. They're stamped just right and do not appear to be laser engraved like airsoft ones are.

As the post above yours suggests, I also wonder if the bolt is somehow demilled.

They had an M3A1 Grease Gun below this but the angle of the glass wouldn't allow for a good shot of it and that one sure looked real to me.

They have several real machine guns in their arms display.

That’s some janky-looking wood on that Thompson.

It's definitely mismatched. Each piece, on its own, is not bad, but the set obviously doesn't go together well.

Were any M1A1's produced without the stock reinforcement screws?

That's probably just the 'fish eye' nature of the lens on my cell phone camera. I remember as I looked at it, it appeared to be a standard .45 ACP.

Look at the sling, I think it looks like a carbine sling?

p51,

The wood on the gun is definitely not original.  The rear pistol grip and front grip are from some type of replica toy gun.  I was going to say that the butt stock looked original, but the placement of the sling swivel is not accurate.  It is too far forward of where the originals are placed.

I do believe though, that you are correct with the sling being an M1 Carbine sling.
