madmax1299
Have a couple parts I need help with if anyone can help. I have these two loaders and they have different fonts. My guess is just that were made with on different assembly lines or months apart s when the punches were replaced. also a resting bar I’m about to get has “MUR” on the bottom. I’ve never seen this but heard they were a subcontractor. I'm also looking at this resting bar (separate from the MUR one) and grips but the resting bar does not look right and the grips seems to be too light. I’ll post the links for them. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1125996120 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1126009663 Thanks for any help!
Rekraps
Both loaders are original. I have invested quite a bit of time and money to get my "rig" correct with original parts, same waffen stamps etc. Repros omit the waffen stamp.
TSMGguy
The marking on the aluminum resting bar is likely NUR. The original casting would have been marked NURAL for the contractor, NURemburg ALuminum. Some letters have likely worn off. I believe the loaders are originals made by Steyr Graz. The contractor code changed from 98E to kur in early 1942. Steyr made the best quality loaders and mags, IMHO. They invariably bear WaA815 stemples. Unissued original MP40 grips today often have a frosty appearance picked up in long storage, like the ones linked. I believe they're original and either dark brown or black. Color will range from light mottled reddish brown to dark chocolate brown and black. Dunk them in water or dab on a little oil to check the colors. Grips were always made of phenolic plastic (Bakelite). Early war grips were often serial numbered to a gun. This practice had largely ceased by late 1941. Metal grips were made post war.
