Hello,

It looks like Desto94 messaged you about this (as you viewed each others' accounts around the same time yesterday). You should know that he is a known scammer. Please do not send him money.

When I touch a 22 kit, it stops working.  Gamma radiation comes out of my hand and makes the kit not run anymore.

I had the highest quality MAC10, UZI and M16 22 kits that money can buy, tinkered with them as only an engineer with really bad OCD can do, never had a full mag run.

What is the story on Desto94?

Wasn't there a guy on here making 22 kits?  I seem to remember being on a waiting list.  Is that Desto94?

I've never had any interest in a Thompson .22 conversion for a couple reasons.  I'm loathe to put in and remove a barrel liner insert for fear of scarring the bore and damaging rifling on the parent barrel.  And for a Thompson, to install and remove a .22 conversion involves pulling out the whole (heavy, oily) .45 ACP assembly, and stowing it somehow while the .22 kit is in use.  Further, the Thompson is a heavy gun with a fixed length stock that might not fit some shooters very well.  I generally use full auto .22 as an intro to full auto for shooters with M11-380, M16, or Uzi .22 set ups.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

Last thing that I recall is a few years ago Deerslayer was going to try to put together a few .22 conversions using parts left after the passing of Drum Doctor plus making whatever else parts were needed for completion.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

No, it was someone else.  He was making copies of some old 22 kit

I remember being put on his waiting list.    It was like 2 years ago.

I have pretty much given up finding a kit so I am designing my own.  I have a very reliable Smith & Wesson 76 / mk760 kit for sale right now and the Thompson kit will be based on that design.  In case any one is interested, the thompson kit will probably be ready in January.

And FWIW, J.A. Ciener sold Thompson .22LR conversion kits for years before he went out of business.  IIRC, his bolt did not have a steel inert at the sear notch and was thus subject to wear and/or deformation at that location unless a steel insert was retrofitted to the bolt.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

I am the person building kits from the parts recovered from Merle Bitikofer. I was able to assemble and deliver the first 27 kits, and I still have approximately 20 people on the waiting list. The main reason no more kits have been delivered is that Merle’s remaining barrel inserts are out of spec, and I have been sporadically trying to see what I can do to enable them to work. I have also had to arrange for new parts to be manufactured to complete the additional kits.

i have not responded to the OP because it is very unlikely that I will be able to fill the current waitlist, let alone add to it.

There has been discussion about making new barrel inserts, but the cost of that part alone would likely add a lot more to the cost of a kit.  For now, I do not plan to pursue that option.

Merle’s design did replace the bottom of the bolt with a steel base, which solved the wear issue in the sear notch (compared to Ciener design), and also adds weight which lowers the cyclic rate.

Roger,

Thanks for responding to the thread and clarifying the past and current build statuses.

Best of luck!
