Stampcollector
I was traveling and stopped in an old Army/Navy shop in New England area and they had a Colt era "L" drum in this canvas pouch and couldn't make out what the marking was on it. At the time took a few pictures but not many and was hoping someone could help identify it?
gijive
Hello, You have a B-O-Y-L-E (BOYLE) made drum pouch. I found two(2) of them many years ago unissued. I sold one and kept the other, I have probably had it for thirty years, or so. The BOYLE made pouches are not rare, but are not as commonly seen as several other manufacturers. They are are not date marked, but typically these pouches were manufactured in 1942. It is an original WWII military issue pouch for the fifty round drum. Nice find. The BOYLE Logo is very hard to read and it appears to have been somewhat smeared when applied. The one pictured below is about as clear as they get. Stampcollector
gijive, Thank you sir for the great information. The shoulder strap seems to be unique. I don't have it with me but seemed different than other manufacturers. I could be wrong but my guess.
gijive
Stampcollector, The BOYLE pouches would have had the usual D-shaped clip at the end of their shoulder straps. This would have been typical for WWII production. The pouch you saw may have had an earlier type shoulder strap, as on the 1930's production pouches. It was probably a replacement strap. If you have a picture of it, send it along.
Stampcollector
Okay thanks, here's the only pics of the strap on the top side of the drum pics. Wish I had taken more. The strap was wider in the center of strap where it would lay on the shoulder. Edited October 17, 2025 by Stampcollector
gijive
Stampcollector, That is the typical WWII Strap with the D type end piece. The strap being wider in the middle is also typical WWII production. Can you send me a private email on the MachinegunBoards.com message system. I have something I would like to ask you?
