Video of rare Thompsons

Recommended Posts

That they even exist fascinates me.

I always thought that other calibers were considered, but 45ACP was determined to be best for a "blowback" weapon like this. 30cal was determined to work best in gas operated guns.

Just my humble observation, Karl, 68coupe

What will be interesting to see is what they bring. Yes they are rare and unique pieces but that doesn’t always translate to big money. Look at the 1923 Colt Thompson chambered in 45 Remington-Thompson. It didn’t bring the huge money at auction that it was expected to.

Okay, did anyone look at the still photo @4:55 in the video? Appears to be a Model 1919 but added compensator and early sight. At first I wondered if it was AI produced but then I think not. Very much resembles a scene from "Public Enemies" movie with Depp but this clearly isn't. Shell casings in the air and depth of field in the photo would be quite the shot even if staged for 1930. Looks like a police car in the background with maybe an officer observing the staged movie/photo shoot. I have not seen this still before, it's a great one.

Motorcar,

The photo at 4.55 is a still from the Johnny Depp movie, "Public Enemies".  It is a WWII 1928 Model (check the non-pointed front sight) with the butt stock removed.  There are other stills from the movie that show that the gun is a 1928 Model, the markings on the receiver give it away.

Thank you!

Next time I should do a search before I type. The black and white as well as the image being degraded is what threw me off from my memory of that scene. In the current video it is bad enough that the actuator appears to be the old blade type of 1919 and the compensator is all messy, The movie still in color everything is quite clear on the gun. I should have known it was too goo to be vintage!

How so?

Looks like a '21 with a stick mag and with the stock detatched

This is a screen shot of 4:55, on a larger screen it appears to have a skinny plain barrel where the grip mount does not touch the barrel and a funny looking compensator.

gijive knows his Thompson guns! The above picture is from the 2009 movie, Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp (shown below in a movie still).

I was in New York City during the release of Public Enemies. The Thompson submachine gun was everywhere in Times Square!

And on every other taxi!

Are there any videos of them firing? That I would want to see!

Mike wouldn't fire the 30-06 or the .30 carbine Thompson.

He also had 5 or 6 RARE German FG42s, but would never shoot them.

Most of the guns he shot were post-May samples

He had 98 machine guns, mostly Thompsons, WWII German, and HK

The 30-06 price realized was $99,875 and the .30 Cal Carbine was $105,750. I do not know if the buyers premium is included in the price realized.

Frank I., I was not the buyer or either Thompson.

Near the end of the video in a different thread, with Brandon Hererra, at RIA showing off the .30-06 Tommy, he was bidding, stopped bidding at 80k, and it hammered at 85k.
