Sgt
I was looking at my Kahr long barrel and noticed the compensator is not pinned. Is it pressed on?
Merry Ploughboy
The compensator that was on my 2012 vintage Kahr 27A1 was pressed on. I replaced the compensator with a pressed on plain front sight. The barrel itself is 16 in. long.
Sgt
Thanks for the reply. How did you get it off. Was it held by lock tight?
deerslayer
They are usually pretty tight. I take them off with a collar, and a hydraulic press, and a somewhat precisely made insert that goes in the comp so you can push on the barrel.

Just pressed on very tightly. I don't recall the details, but I recall that I did use a propane torch to heat the comp to get it where I could tap it off of the barrel with a nylon punch, and on the ring sight so it could be tapped on with the nylon punch. They were very slow and careful processes. I do not recommend that you try this unless you're willing to take the consequences of any errors that you might make. Best of luck if you decide to pursue. Sgt
I really appreciate the help, guys. I'm leaning more toward a hydraulic press, as this is a useful tool for other things too and they are reasonably priced. Do you think a 12 ton press would be sufficient to push out an M1 ring sight or a Kahr no-pin compensator?
deerslayer
You wont need 12 tons. You will need an insert to go through the comp and push against the end of the barrel, and a collar to go around the barrel and push against the comp. The collar size isnt critical, but the insert through the comp will have to be just larger than the .45 bore, but smaller than the comp hole. If you have access to a lathe you can make something easy.
