what is an Original Parts tin worth with all parts

Recommended Posts

Hyper Sniper,

Welcome back to the Thompson forum.

If you obtained the Spare Part Kit (SPK) from Gordon Curtiss, I would bet Mr. Curtiss obtained it from Roger Cox.

If the SPK is original, one of the most common variations, is in really nice condition and contains original Colt era parts, then the price mentioned by Got Uzi, above, is possible - but very much at the top of the market. If you can post some pictures, I know forum members can offer a more accurate opinion of pricing. Be aware that fakes exist. And two of the variations will not command top dollar but are none the less original.

If you decide to post pictures, I want to see a close up of the front and back of the rivet attaching the latch. I also want to see a clear picture of the hinges, top and bottom. I have written extensively on the SPK. My Amateur's Guide book tells of the history of the SPK and examines what I believe is the most common (and valuable variation). It also addresses the Gordon Herigstad reproduction kit. My 3rd book goes into detail on the last two variations as well as fakes with a follow up on the Herigstad reproduction SPK. Knowledgeable buyers will most likely have both books. The pictures tell the story. It is good way to authenticate your SPK and will aide if you ever decide to sell it.

If you live close to Ohio, attending a Thompson association Show & Shoot later this year will offer you the opportunity to have the SPK examined by knowledgeable members in this area. And you will have a lot of fun. I guarantee it!

Thank you for the reply TD.

when I get time I will post some pics. I live in between Roger Cox and Gordon Curtiss.  So when Mr. Curtiss passed I bought most of his collection, and I have gotten older and am going to sell.
it is currently on Gunbrokers and is the 1921 AC #7011 and is an amazing collection of the Books FBI case and is full of all the original parts as well as the signed book From Roger Cox and the addendum book with a new like L Drum with matching serial numbers #2717 you can look at the total collection on Gunbroker.
Thank you for your time and response Sir.
I will tell you that the SPK is the real deal! Because when I bought this collection, the fakes were not offered at that time. This gun is in Gordon Herigstad book as well and I talked to him many times before he started his replica model.

That is one of the better cased sets I HAVE SEEN OFFERED AND SELL IN AWHILE.And i should know i had well over a 100 of them.as far as parts kits only ever had 6 total original. looks correct by what i can see, those who have owned more then 6 can chime in with the knowledge on them. seems after Gordones arrived.everybody became a expert. yet when i had one in 1975 they thought it was a fish hook box and line weights for fishing. times change.we have seen a lot over the past 50 plus years. And more guns will be offered. with all the extra items that have been put away for decades.nice gun nice story...RON K.

Greg you built this case for me many years ago. I asked you to build it at the Knob Crk machine gun shoot probably around 2008 or so. Beautifully done Sir

I am the one that sold Gordon Curtiss’s

Collection.
