What to do. Demilitarized MP40

Hello everyone. I am looking for some guidance. 15 years ago I was given a demilled MP40. It had been in the Cabela’s corporate office displayed in a VP’s office. HR came in and told him that it needed to go and it found its way home with me. Since then it has stayed in my gun safe getting shown off to other gun guys in my circle. While I think it’s cool it’s not my style of gun.

Recently I saw a video (mattexplodesstuff) on Instagram of him shooting his new to him mp40. He mentioned the mags were expensive. This put me down a rabbit hole of understanding what value I had with my mp40.

It seems like these parts are pricey. I looked around gunbroker and didn’t see any parts really changing hands. The further searches led me here.

My questions:

Is there anyway to make it shootable legally? Maybe in a semi auto with SBR classification. I won’t be getting an SOT anytime soon

Is there a need for good conditioned parts?  Outside of the barrel (the rifling is in good condition) and front site having matching numbers the rest of the gun is not.

Anyone in need of a display piece?

I would be more happy getting it to someone who would appreciate it and freeing up cash something else.

It does not have paperwork. It is a non-firing example. I have not taken it apart, but the main receiver was replaced by a solid chunk of steel. Then they to reattach the original parts to resemble a functional firearm.

Did some of these Demilled examples carry paperwork with them? This is far outside of my area of expertise.

You could sell it as a display gun or even as a parts kit. It’s not a functioning firearm. No paperwork is needed for this. Value would be the sum of the parts…frame and barrel assemblies and magazine basically…no bolt or firing pin/recoil assembly. If you are interested in selling it, I’m looking for spare MP40 parts.

Got over my nerves and took the gun apart tonight. Minus the fuzz, the barrel is clean. I didn’t want to run anything down it. There is still cosmoline all over the guts of this thing.IMG_0863.thumb.jpeg.0487845346c395833b95de714240e5d3.jpeg

Lower made by Steyr Graz in in 1943. Mag body by Steyr Warsaw in 1943. The earlier 98E code was changed to kur in early 1942. Mag follower by Steyr Warsaw as well. Don't see the barrel markings.

I'd clean the old cosmo out of the bore. The stuff is hydrophilic. It absorbs moisture from the air and promotes corrosion after a few years.
