WTB: Beretta 38a or 38/42 etc.

Recommended Posts

Interested in buying or building a Beretta 38A, either pre-86 dealer sample or transferable.

I currently have a post-sample 38A and have discussed with a few friends the possibility of using a transferable or pre-86 38/42-style receiver as the basis for a 38A build. My post-sample gun could potentially serve as the parts donor, with the receiver being the main replacement.

If you know of one for sale, or have one you would consider selling, please reach out.

Also, I hope this is the appropriate place to post this. If not, please let me know and I will take it down.

Thanks!

There are some basic differences between the 38A and the 38/4X receivers.  The most difficult to resolve is the absence of the track for the cocking handle.  You might be time and money ahead just buying a 38/42-44.  The difference in performance is negligible

Yeah on my post sample 38a it doesn't have that milled track, while it doesn't look as sexy as the 38a early milled, performance wise it works perfectly fine. I saw another 38/42 done in 38a setup and it too wasn't effected.  I could be wrong but believe at some point they made later 38a without all the milled features.  The price difference between a 38a and 38/42 can be significant from what I have seen.   But if the price is at all close, I would agree 100% and go with the 38a every time.  I just haven't seen a ton of the 38a's on the market while 38/4x seem much easier to find.  I have shot my friends 38, model 4 I think, and I really enjoy the longer stock of the 38a on mine.  Shooting them back to back on paper I was also able to keep significantly tighter 10 shot groups.  Others shot them and preferred the shorter stock. They are both great guns just personal preference is 38a.
