OGCA display-The Swedish K

Recommended Posts

This weekend I had a 16 foot display on the Swedish K where I ended up winning the Judges Choice Award-Military. The display was very well received by all those that attended and many had questions as they seldom see these weapons.

  • Got Uzi changed the title to OGCA display-The Swedish K

I was pleasantly surprised as to how well received the display was.  There were a lot of questions with regards to the guns and when they were used.

Congrats!  Don't know if you have it covered in your presentations, but there may be interest in a panel highlighting notable highs and lows of Swed K use (that are published).  Thoughts along those lines could include Sgt. Drew Dix who used his Swed K during Tet to earn the Medal of Honor rescuing a number of nurses and such from the VC / regular NV troops.  On the "lows" you could pull archival photos of the Anwar Sadat assassins who (some) also used Port Said versions during their attack.  There are the Irish(?) peacekeepers who defended their camp somewhere in Africa. I think that there was a movie about that but don't recall specifics.  Others?

I kept it more to the variations of the guns and only brought up US Special operations use during Vietnam which lead to the embargo and the creation of the S&W 76. I didn’t get into the other users besides Sweden, the US and Egypt.

The Siege of Jadotville in the Congo in Sept 1961. The 155 Irish soldiers were then on a UN operation and besieged by an estimated force of 3000 Katangese mercenaries.

I spoke to a former Irish Defence soldier a few years ago in Dublin, who had been in Jadotville when the siege began. He was an Interesting man to talk to, one of those who had been captured and held as a POW for about four weeks, he told me.
