Vickers Headspacing question

Vickers Headspacing question 

I bought a different lock and barrel which both look slightly used so I checked my Headspacing and adjusted with shims on crank bayonet lug.Question I have is my GO gauge is .064 but my MEM German ammo rim is .060.Is this too much difference in size to headspace with the go gauge or should I headspace with a fired MEM ammo brass?  Or is the .004 difference not worth worrying about.  Thanks for any info.

I read the book again , so headspace needs to be far enough forward to not get head space separation but far enough back that the extractors on the lock do not hit the barrel groves.  So I will buy a field gauge and use that instead of the go gauge to adjust headspace.  I check extractors in grooves of barrel by shining a light from underneath.

         Rim thickness of gauges

.060 = MEM and HXP ammo

.064 = go gauge

.067 = no go gauge

.071 = field gauge

I bought a Foster field gauge, it is .070.  But it is too big to fit underneath the extractors of the lock.  So back to the drawing board?

    Also on another post on another forum(which I can not find now) said the British army only used two gauges the go gauge and the field gauge.  .064 and .074.  Probably gauges made specifically for the Vickers with smaller sides to fit underneath the lock extractors.

Thanks, I have been looking at your gauges on your website.  Will buy some after holiday.  Maybe they will give another course?

After hours of trying different shims, I am going to try this next year when I shoot.

1.  .010. By using 2x .005 shims.

2.  closes on .064 headspace gauge with slight resistance.

3.  does not close on .067 gauge

4. slight space showing between extractors and barrel with flashlight underneath

5.  Will shoot this first then change out .005 shim with .003 shim and then see if I get any head space separations.
