StrangeRanger
If someone has a Sterling Mk4/L2A3 with the original elevation adjustable front sight I would appreciate it if you could take a measurement for me. I need to know the width of the front sight post
StrangeRanger
Somebody?? I'm looking at the feasibility of replacing the front sight on my Lanchester with one but I need to know if it's wider than .050" to be worth the expense
Rekraps
I'll measure mine when I get home. I have both an Andrewski DLO build and a spare parts kit.

The Lanchester front sight is a single beveled piece that fits into a bevel milked into the barrel shroud. Not sure how to measure it. Front to back at base 7mm. Height 5mm. Width 21mm, front to back at top 4.5mm
Rekraps
Width of sight blade at top is 1mm.
StrangeRanger
Thank you Peter Laidler says that Lanchester sight was used on the L2A2 and they are interchangeable with the L2A3/Mk4 sight. the retrofit was often done in the field Interesting that your Lanchester sight is 1mm/.039" wide, mine is 1.3mm/.052". I'm not at all sure that the available increase to 1.5mm/.059" is worth the doing
Rekraps
Both of the L2A3 sight fixtures I have (one you see pictured and on on my DLO/Andrewski gun) use Sterling parts. I suppose you could use a Lanchester sight fixture and it'd work, but there is no provision for the Lanchester front sight to be moved up or down, just right and left whereas the Sterling sight does both. StrangeRanger
Adjustability is the whole point of it. For the L2A2 Sterling furnished a set of 7 Lanchester-compatible foresights with tips of varying heights with each gun. They were to be used to zero the gun. For the L2A3/Mk4 they went to the adjustable blade. The base/cross-slide is dimensionally the same for all 3 guns. If the blade on the Mk4 foresight were .075-.090" wide I would be changing to one but at .058" I don't see much reason to do so. '
