M1 Carbine Handguard with strange Cut Wood

At a recent Gunshow at Oaks Pa. Expo Center, l came across a different type M1 Carbine Handguard. Price was reasonable so I grabbed it.

The Handguard is not cut for the Op Rod on the Outside. I have heard of High Wood Stocks, but not Low Wood Handguards.

On the Underside, has a long slot cut out. Maybe a Commercial like Universal?? I know older Commercial M1 Carbines used Stamped  Steel with Vent Holes.

Has anyone ever seen a M1 Carbine Handguard like this???  Or can Identify???
