Lotusnut
I know these are expensive, does anyone know of one for sale ? Thanks
giantpanda4
I have been looking for the same thing on Amazon, had a standing search for about two years. There has not yet been one out there under $250 in any condition. Evilbay had one go for about $300, if I remember right. Good luck.... maybe we can get the person with the rights to it to get a reprint going... sounds economically feasible!
Lotusnut
Good luck as well. some guy on Amazon is selling one for $800+, and is references and feedback are crappy... I'll pass on that one !
LIONHART
Generally, one in Exc. Condition will fetch around $350.00. There had been one on ABEBooks for a short while, but have since been sold. SARCO INC. Had the rights to Reprint the Book, and about three years ago sold said rights to an unknown entity. Whether or not we'll see a Reprint is anyone's' guess. I hope that we do, but we may be in for a very long wait.
Phil Askew
I was offered one for $400, no dust cover but book was super nice. I already had one. E-mail me if you are interested and I'll see if he still has it. (philfordparts@yahoo.com)

jim
I'm cheap, I got a copy from the library and thoroughly read it through over a couple of weeks
Zamm
Jim, If one is just looking for refference and not actually collecting books, one could be even cheaper, that is , borrow a copy from the library and scan it, print it out and bind it. Not that I would ever do such a thing or condone someone to do with a copyrighted item. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif Zamm
Zamm
Geez Phil, you are in rare form! Okay, okay, I pirate copyrighted materials http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif Z P.S. If your library does not happen to have the book, ask for a "inter-library loan" and they will get one from another library temp. for you... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
ftc3906
Why would someone purchase book rights and just sit on them? I'm surprised that SARCO didn't republish once original Cox copies hit $100. I have never known of SARCO to run away from a dollar!
giantpanda4
I tried the interlibrary loan. Not one library had it available for loan! All pointed to me that these damn liberal librarians don't like the title.... no one was eager to help. I even went to the State library, can't find it! Let me know what libraries have it... I will contact them directly. Or ... Zamm can make us all copies...! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif
giantpanda4
You know, there is a guy out in evilbay who bids on Tommy stuff, goes by "bookbinder". Is that anyone here? Maybe we can get in contact with him or someone who could give us the costs of doing a project like this. Think the TCA would like to get into this? May be better than hawking Kahr comemmoratives! giantpanda4
Well, I brain farted... that guy is a big Ferrari buyer/ seller (in Va, I think). Forgot who I was bidding against and in what category on Evilbay! Thanks God it is not who you said!
TD.
Does anyone think there would be that big a market for a reprint of Roger's book today? I am certainly grateful to own an autographed original numbered copy. However, I am more grateful it was published at a time when very little had been published on the Thompson Submachine Gun. It contained a lot of new information on the Thompson that had never been published or made available in an easy reference format. Most Thompson articles at that time were only a rehash of previously printed material and lacked any real depth or substance. Since then, several different books have been published, most are still in print and at least two contain updated Colt serial number information. I still find Roger's book very interesting reading and understand why every Thompson enthusiast would want a copy. However, I don't see it being a big enough seller to warrant a reprint of the same quality as the original book. Perhaps, this is why it has never been reprinted. Merry Ploughboy
When I got a copy of the Cox book through my local libray inter-library loan it came from a U.S. Army base library (Ft. Gordon, GA??), not another "public" library. That may be why the locals can't find it - not looking in the right place.
Zamm
giantpanda4 and Merry Ploughboy, My local library is real good at tracking down stuff like this. They go at it with a vengence. Once found a single copy of a book someplace and got it for me. Real nice. Now, with the Cox book, they came up with 8 libraries in the country that had it. Giantpanda4, Go back an pester them! Tell them to look in Seattle, that's where the one I got came from. Tell them you need to do historical reference for crime statistics or something http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif Z
John Jr
I have the cox book and the sup too. I would see them for $2,500.00 cash. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
TD.
Jr, I could not imagine selling my signed Cox book and supplement. But if someone offered $2500......SOLD http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Merry Ploughboy
The Roger Cox Thompson book is still for sale at only $824.23 on Amazon. Comes complete with a glowing five star review by (to no surprise) the seller. Isn't that a blatant conflict of interest? Arthur Fliegenheimer
Since the reprints of all the original Auto-Ord-Co catalogs didn't affect their current colossal values ($550 for 4 pages of illustrations and ad copy?) then neither would a reprint of Cox's book. Although reprinting a hardcover book with dust cover that depicted actual photos would hardly be practical considering there are not enough perspective buyers to run off the bare minimum amount required by a printer to make a profit.
