Royal Typewriter Vs Colt, Win. And N.e.s.a

Recommended Posts

Usually three manufacturers are listed when talking about the BAR: 1)N.E.S.A., 2) Win., and 3)Colt. Lot of folks forget about Royal Typewriter.

Although the newest of the lot, my BAR still has the feel of a quality firearm (my only fault with it being the shallowness of the manufactures stamp on the reciever- hard to read). I enjoy shooting it (though I may one day need a backbrace because if it), and it seems to function reliably (although I must admit having fired only 3-400 rds). I've never shot any of the "Big Three" guns so really don't have much to compare with.

That's where you guys come in. Sounds like a few of you have dealt with BARs for years and have developed some opinions regarding the various manufacturers. How does the Royal compare for overall reliability, quality etc.????

Second part of this message is to see if anyone has a "minty" Royal Typewriter barrel for sale (the present one I have is a replacement and unfortunately has a pitted bore).

Anyway, thanks for looking.

Sentinal,...Good to here you like your Royal and get to shoot it...my next one will be a Royal McBee Typewriter if all goes well....I`m sure that they stack up along side the other manufacturers...you forgot to mention the Marlin/Rockwells from WWI and the IBMs from WWII...most of the Royals I come across are presamples..is yours?...IBMs seem to be quite rare..so for now I`m content with the M/R and a NESA...

Hi guys,

We are lucky we have gotten our BARs when we did. The current BAR market looks pretty bleak for the newbie collectors. Now we need some nice barrels to pop into circulation like all the Thompson stuff did.

Hi 21 Smoker and Leid:

Fortunately its a C&R registered gun. Unfortunately the barrel looks great outside but a mess inside--still usable though. Seems every time I plan to buy parts the market is either overpriced (and what ain"t) or unavailable.

Anyway, got another question for you guys. I'm having the worst time trying to unscrew the end of the gas port. I've removed the retaining pin (or whatever its called). but it won't budge--it simply will not turn. Any secrets I'm missing or is this thing welded shut with either cabon or rust????

In the early '80s, Armex International (a/k/a Inter American Import Export Co.) sold re-imported BAR's for $225 each. I bought two: one NESA and one Royal Typewriter. I could tell no difference between the two. I recently sold the NESA and am happy with the Royal.

Bought a 41 Lincoln back in the 80s to restore. Never did!

Just think If I'ld continued to buy up NFA guns instead. Unfortunately I thought they were getting a bit pricy back then so switched my collecting field. At least I've got a few.

Bye for now-have to go and drown my sorrow.
