Different
Sir, with respect, Orest Michaels, Chief Financial Officer at CMP, said in 2003 this is a no go. I have the e-mail correspondence from him to Bill Orlowski stating such.
randyron
Because one or two bureaucrats say it's dead, doesn't mean it can't be changed. One should never give up trying to talk sense into an elected official. When they are all cut up, quit. Note: My NG unit, the 81st Brigade took 100+ NM M-14's to Iraq with them last year and used them to good effect. Included was my old state issued gun that I competed with for 15 years. I became distinguished with that gun, became a member of the President's Hundred with that gun, helped win a national team championship with that gun http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif and hopefully it was used to good effect in battle. What a crying shame to cut it into little pieces like it was something bad. SFC WANG (RET)
TSMGguy
Hopefully the 'cutting into little pieces' has stopped. The guns continue to be used to good effect, and I'd hope that the ones that are left will lead long service lives. Unless the congress passes a law authorizing and directing CMP M14 sales, my long held pipe dream of owning one will sadly remain just that. Different
The cutting up into little pieces was stopped in 1996 by an Act of Congress.
apschreiber
I learned earlier in the year that the National Guard Bureau is starting to re issue their M14's to a "designated marksmen." So, hopefully these rilfles will continue to be used. My information should be fairly accurate, but the details are not known. I shot for the USAMU Service Pistol Team while I was active duty and then when I shot for the National Guard Bureau's All Guard Pistol Team. I used to teach a lot of classes on advanced marksmanship and still keep in touch with a few of those people even though I'm out now. So, this information came from someone who is still teaching those courses. I think it's a great idea. I can't ever see the CMP selling any M14's or even pistols again, but it would certainly be nice. If notihing else, it is good to know at least some of those good old rifles won't just end up as scrap.

The New York National Guard was deployed to Iraq last year with 108 (IIRC) M14 rifles with scopes and Sadlak Industries steel scope mounts.
