I didn't sell most of my gun collection to own a safe queen. I have put away the original internals, and the colt(remington) wood, but have shot it several hundred rounds in the 21 config. the way I look at it, people drive cars every day worth more than my thompson, and dont worry about it. my thompson is worth more than a years salary for me, by god, I'm gonna enjoy it larry Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

leonjoh Posted March 21, 2006 Report Share Posted March 21, 2006 I bought my 1928 Navy in 2001 along with a drum and promptly shot about 500 rounds through it. Once I calmed down from the initial euphoria, I began to realize what it would cost to replace any broken Colt parts (if they could be found) and became timid about shooting it. My Thompson then became a "Safe Queen" for the next several years. A few months ago I asked Tracie Hill what he thought of the Ciener .22 Conversion Unit for the Thompson and his response was very positive. So I ordered one from Tom Woods in Indiana along with three extra magazines and a loader. They're not cheap, but they do work great and protect what has become a sizeable investment. I still get that Chicago Typewriter noise and have a lot of fun shooting it. The Safe Queen has become a Party Girl. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I bought my U.S. Navy 1928 to sell since I'm one of those GREEDY DEALERS!!! then decided that if I could afford to keep it I'd hold on to it. Well, I've been able to afford it and my investment has grown about 10k from what I would have made if I would have sold it at that time. I don't shoot it, I take it out of the safe every month or so and re-oil it, wipe it and put it away. I've got a restricted 1921 coming though, that I will shoot that is not as nice as my '28. I don't like the slower speed of the '28 anyway, they seem kind of clunky at the lower rate of fire. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

sevengunner Posted March 22, 2006 Report Share Posted March 22, 2006 There's an eccentric fellow at a local range who ... ... removed the rear sight and brazed a picatinny rail onto his Colt 1921 receiver ... replaced the CUTTS comp with a 4 prong VORTEX flash hider ... retrofitted a rubberized hogue type pistol grip ... also fitted a KAC type handguard with 4x rails floated around the barrel Yes, he shoots it often with EOTECH and SCAR type front pistol grip mounted ... and is frequently the top score at the subgun shoots hosted at the range Can't help but feel sorry for the next generation who might feel compelled to restore it to original specs!!
