What Do I Have Here?

Recommended Posts

I acquired this recently, and don't know what to make of it. It's a non-crossbolt 1928 buttstock, and it appears to be real GI, with one glaring exception. The slide and the inletting for the slide is very strange. The first photo shows a standard stock at the top and the mystery stock on the bottom. As you can see, the inletting is very different. The next photos compare a standard GI slide with the strange one, which seems to be painted black. It's about a quarter inch shorter than the GI slide, and the design is different. The mystery slide is serial numbered, 25, which matches the stock. The two slides are not interchangeable, due to the different inletting. The buttplate is milled and appears to be standard GI. Does anyone know what I have? Thanks.

Gunner,

Check out any old WWII pictures of Japanese airplanes or Navy ships. Japanese numbers are Arabic.

That number could have been put on by anyone with a number punch. The MGC stocks I have exmained did not have any numbers on the slide, as PhilOhio has already mentioned.

The five Japanese rifles I have, they're for sale btw, are all serial numbered Arabic..... Is there such a thing a Japanese numbering?
