Guess Who Fired The SVD Guns Today?

Recommended Posts

Ok, well today was the day of all fucking days. I actually made it to the opening of the shoot at the range on time! And after the night at the bar, it was questionable.

Frank had all the horror stories about Nick and Fern the wonder dog. Don't ask, I'm not sure we want to know.

Well, while we were shooting the steel pepper poppers, Which was won by David Allen this year, Dave Albert and Frank (today is my bday) Iannamico were over at the over other range shooting, yep, you got it, the actual guns used at the St. Valentines Day shooting. Yes it is true, the actual guns were there. I held them in my sweaty little hands. The chubby still hasn't gone down. Frank and Dave were dumping the actual 50 round drum used to cut down the the old boys in Chi town by some thugs. Well, I have to leave now, the waitress is back with my beer. Pictures will be posted soon.

Here are some pictures from the SVDM display. GIJive did an amazing job of pulling all this together, and he deserves a standing ovation for the results. I was very fortunate, along with a few others, to have the opportunity to shoot an L-drum through infamous 1921A No. 2347. It was a surreal feeling, and one that I will never forget. Thanks to Chuck, Bill Helmer, Mike Kline of the Berrien County Sheriff's Dept, and Tracie and Donna Hill for the opportunity to experience this historical display.

I'm sure others took more pictures, and will hopefully post them. I can't wait to see the range pictures.

PhilOhio,

Mike Kline of the Berrien County PD accompanied the guns, and he is the officer with Tino in the last picture. I'm sure Chuck can shed more light on the background preparations. The History Channel was not there. Shooting it was a matter of being in the right place, at the right time. The gun had a few drums run through it, and then was fully disassembled, cleaned, and put away. I do know that someone took video of Frank and me shooting #2347, but I don't recall who it was. Hopefully the videographer will make the footage available.

Any chance that History Channel people were around to film the firing of the historic/infamous Thompsons under more honorable conditions?  Would have been great PR for The Cause, and for everybody involved.  Sorry I missed it this year.

What do you think, Mario?  Might an opportunity have been missed here?

But somebody deserves a lot of credit for making this historic Thompson appearance happen.  Details, Mike, David, anybody?  Is that a Berien County, Michigan officer in the picture?

http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/woot.gif Terrific shots!!! Great job GIJive and thanks Mike for the reporting.Yes Phil, I really think someone should of filmed that. It's a rare thing to get those million dollar insured guns fired. Idoubt the History channel would have done it.(They would have said it's been done that and they also don't like suggestions or so I found out the hard way).

Maybe someone took a video cam of the guns and collection. I got a photo of what destruction one of the bullets did to one of those bricks. The bricks were made with clay picked up near shoreline when all the residue from the great Chicago fire was dumped in the water. Can see some burnt pieces inside the bricks.Anyhow the bullet struck the brick and the brick cracked through.

Great photos It Certainly made my heart skip a beat and I wasn't even there.Something about that subject(St.Val) that is dear to my heart, http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif only after of course Capone himself.

That Lt. Kine is aces in my book!!!

Dave,

Thanks for posting the pictures and for the kind words about the display. I just got home from the show, it was a long drive and a tiring two days. I was nervous about the display, but was pleased with the results. I worked with Mike Kline on this for the better part of a year. I didn't want to give too much advance notice on the list because until just a few weeks ago I wasn't sure that it would actually happen and didn't want to announce something that couldn't be delivered. The Berrien County Sheriff's Department and Lt. Mike Kline, in particular, were instrumental in arranging to have the guns displayed publicly for the first time ever outside of Berrien County Michigan. Special thanks also to my friend John McHugh who assisted with putting up the display and offering moral support and to Tracie and Donna Hill for hosting the show and inviting us into their home.

Dave, I'll post some more pictures when I download them from my camera. I may have some of you on there.

The subtle hints about the SVDM display really didn't prepare those in attendance for such an impressive display. Thanks to "all" who made this event so memorable. Although I missed out on the shooting of the guns, I was at the pepper popper range, I felt privileged just to see and then later hold each one of the guns. It made my day !!

Thanks again !!

We justgot back and settled in.

All the way home all we talked about was how amazing it was to see and hold those guns! I got a picture with my son holding them, as I am SURE they won't be readily available for this kind of open inspection (and for those lucky few shooting) very often.

Thanks to Chuck (GIJive) and Mike Kline so much for making Tracie's bash - which is always a spectular event - even more special. What a way to spend the last day with your kid before he goes to college!

Thanks again!

Mike,

Eric is one fine Thompson shooter. It was a pleasure working as Range Officer with Eric at the line. He will win it all someday!

As everyone can tell from the pictures, the 15th Annual Thompson Show and Shoot was fantastic. The St. Valentine Day Massacre Thompson's and Lt. Mike Kline of the Berrien County Michigan Sheriff's Department were the hit of the show. Everyone owes Chuck a big thank-you for all his efforts as this was definitely an award winning display. I wonder what he will do next year! Thanks again Chuck - and thank you Tracie and Donna for a great time this weekend.

...is someone on the Board publishing a calendar? I seem to recall something about this....

While I was watching the Birthday Boy at the range Saturday, it occurred to me that Frank was a little too proficient with the Thompson that used to belong to Fred Burke. I did some checking on old photographs and came up with this long lost photo of the Massacre. Frank, are you sure you are not related to Fred Burke through some long lost family connection? There is a striking resemblance.

Mario,

I don't know about any cotton being found at the scene, but I doubt that Burke and company gave any thought to damaging their hearing way back then. Boy, their ears must have been ringing when they walked out of that garage!

What a great updated SVD pic.  I'm sure Frank is getting a copy.  Everytime Fern the wonder dog gets out of line, all he needs to do is wave the picture in front of her as a reminder of what could happen...

Phil,

Too bad you couldn't attend this year. I was looking for you but obviously didn't see you. Yes, Frank will be getting a copy of the picture suitable for framing http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif
