Dummy Sten?

i've recently veen offered two sten mark II's that have dummy barrels, and what look to be solid chamber areas in the receiver. The firing pin is ground off the bolt, however, the rest of it looks to real. they were offered by two seperate people at different times and were different guns. i kept my distance, but would like to know exactly what they are and if and when they were available? pretty much the receiver tube seems to be real freom the ejection port back, but from the ejection port forward, it is solid.
