I have asked time and time again as have many, that this person come clean. This is just a simple poll to determine what the whole thinks. I think AF should come clean (tell us who he really is, post what guns (if any) he really owns, post a real profile, etc...) or he should get the boot.

Several of us already know who he is. He was banned under at least 2 names on the old board, maybe 3 names even. I would like to get the opinion of the masses here.

???????????

If someone agrees with you 100% you miss the opportunity to be challanged by a different view. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif To debate is to learn. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Would you want this to become a "politically correct" board? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif My .02.

It's not different than the public gun range, or the old gun shop down the street. There will always be some car salesman looking guy standing around running his mouth on, and on, and on, and on. If you think you have nothing to gain by reasoning with the guy, you just keep walking.

Messageboards are the same. If you realize you can't reason with certain people, it's not worth your time to respond to their messages (or even read them).

I don't think there's a need to squelch AF. There's always someone who thinks they can communicate with him. (Otherwise no one would reply) And, I don't think it's any of our business what type of firearms he owns, or what he paid for them. The less credibility he gives himself, the more everyone will see that he's just the slimey know-it-all at the gunshop.

I have no problem with him. He has responded to my private e-mails and has been helpful. I am more of a lurker than a poster on this board, but negative "stuff" from any poster is detrimental, IMHO.

Sounds like personal vendetta time? I frequent a car board that has an even more diverse population, from right wing military types to Starbuck™ slurping vegans, and we have our share of heated exchanges between ahhhh lets say the more colorful members.... but bottom line is you are the ultimate vote.... If you dislike a persons advice and/or political bent.... Then don't read their post! It is as simple as that.... I've been here a month and I've already developed opinions on whose post I want to read and whose I ignore in the archives or new postings....... Since I frequent a number of boards on a daily basis I don't need the wasted reading time..... Life is to short to obsess on message board personalities......

I agree with the comments expressed in the previous replies. I see no reason to ban someone for a difference of opinion or attitude. Banning should be reserved for those people who exhibit a pattern of intense flaming and/or vulgarity. As long as someone remains civil and just happens to have a differing opinion from others, I believe tolerance is the best approach.

We can often gleen nuggets of truth or insight even from those that we dislike or disdain.

IMHO AF has not violated any rules of this board and should not be banned. If he is banned for not having a profile, then all without a profile should be banned as well in all fairness. I find AF amusing and adds some excitement since he seems to be able to stir up the soup so well. While I am curious as to his identity...I don't think that he should be forced into giving it up unless the same is done across all members. (if some here know his true identity...then TELL US!) Plain and simple...there is more than one way to skin a cat! I agree with hawksnest...I do not want this to turn into a "politically correct" board.

John Jr...I hear you completely and feel for you in your frustrated helplessness. The best I can suggest is to give him up yourself! I would read that post!

How can you really ban someone? Can't they just create a new login?

I don't read all the posts so not sure what the issue is but if you point me to some recent threads I will be happy to review as it would make fun reading. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif

Any board you visit will have a wide variety of people and the more you have the more chances of there being one guy in the group that rubs people the wrong way. You know what... the same hold true for work or even with family members.

Unless the person is downright vulgar then I wouldn't worry about it, but I am sure there is a hidden story behind this thread. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

I was under the impression from the get-go that the profile was not required, merely a point of interest for those curious enough to want to check someone out.

I'll admit, I've not been that curious myself......although I did add a profile of myself on these new boards, I don't think I had added one on the old boards....

But I'm still me!!!

BTW, who is this guy everyone's so curious about??

I've never posted a profile. Nobody's ever asked me to "reveal" myself. I guess that's because I haven't said anything that's upset anybody. I'm really disappointed that a third of members would want to ban somebody because they don't like what he says. Particulary strange coming from a group that espouses personal freedom.

I'll be at the creek in April also. As far as meeting people, I love to. I met several people at the SAR show over the week-end. It puts a face on the board not just a name. Murray Willis, Gordon Herigstad, Roger in AZ, Merle, Randy Lish, Doug Richardson, just to name a few.

I, for one, don't want to ban Arthur (whoever he really is). http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif We've had our disagreements, mostly on the economics and politics of Thompsons and the Second Amendment. Our conversations have been interesting to me, even though Arthur's opinions have vexed me (at times), as I am sure mine have irritated him at times. There is an old saying, I think fom the Old Testament, that states (paraphrasing),'Iron sharpens iron.' I think our debates have strengthened both of us. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif These are peripheral things, really, to my enjoyment of the Thompson, its history, lore, mechanics, not to mention the kamaraderie we all enjoy on this board. I am curious about Arthur's background and it would be nice to know if he does own some (even, a Thompson) Thompsons, just as I am curious about every member of this board and their background. Perhaps interested is a better word. I merely like to know with whom I am communicating. It makes it more enjoyable!! However, if someone is reticent, retiring, or even shy, I don't think that is enough to want to ban him. As far as a profile update, I would like to encourage every member to at least add the state or nation you are from. What possible harm could that do? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Regards, Walter

John Jr.--

Just who the hell do you think you are? Who died and left you in command? If this is really a concern that you have, and you are truly bothered by it, then you are a whiney little broad. Just because somebody doesnt want to answer your questions, or divulge any answers to you, doesnt give you the right to ban somebody. Ever think that he doesnt want to anser your questions because just maybe its none of your fuqqing business. I have three words for you:

Simmer down Francis!

MIke

PS-- Lets talk about Thompsons and you work on getting a life.
