Lt Shaffer
Hello all, I just got back from Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium courtesy of the USAF. I found a museum in Diekirch Luxembourg that puts the museum at Bastogne and Pattons museum i Ettlebruckk to shame. This is the link to the museum website http://www.nat-military-museum.lu. They have the best diaramas I have ver seen. The weapons were still dripping cosmoline! At least 30 Thompsons on display throughout the museum. I will post some pictures as soon as I get a chance to figure out how. If anyone ever gets a chace to go, it is a must if your in the area. They do speak english at the museum and around town. I went to the museum in Diekirch last year and it is a must see if you are in that area. If you are interested in Mp43/Mp44 rifles the museum also has a find collection of those and accessories. Not too far away is also a small but very good museum in Vossenack, Germany that displays details of the Huertgenwald battles - http://www.huertgenwald.de/hwmuseum.html I do not know if they have English speakers at this museum, the friends I was there with were German and translated for me. I will be going back to Germany in 2009 for two weeks and will be making a return visit to Diekirch.
Lt Shaffer
I stayed in a small village not far from Spangdahlem AB and during one of my hikes along the rail line I found 10 two man fox holes overlooking a small river and large field at the edge of some woods. They were partialy filled in with compost, I wish I had access to a metal detector! It was very interesting and a little creepy at the same time. The grandfather of the hotels owner was a oldier on the eastern front during the war. He didn't speak good english but always saluted when he saw us in uniform and shook our hands whenever he saw us. I think his daughter said Ompa was 91. I can't wait to go back next year. I love Germany!!
