Grumpy
Hi, Can someone tell me the proper finish that was applied to a Sten and a Stering? Was it paint, black oxide, or parking? Thanks, Bill
froster
The British Stens were black paint over parkerizing, while their Sterlings are black wrinkle paint over parkerizing. I hope this helps

froster
You're welcome. I forgot to mention that the Canadian Stens and Sterlings were only Parkerized.
axenige
The correct paint for Stens is Suncorite which is still made by Trimite Paints, here in the U.K. This paint was also used by R.E.M.E. Armours to refinish weapons after issue. The samples that I've seen of the WWII original paint shows a Jet black egg shell finish. Also I've another version of this product which simulates a grey phosphate finish. As to the paint for Sterling SMG's this is a similar product but has a Wrinkle or Crinkle finish, identical to that used on old car parts and radio sets. RoscoeTurner
Thread on Suncorite - http://www.jouster.com/cgi-bin/lee-enfield...ames;read=58913 I have a parkerized Erb tube Sten that I am in the process of transferring that I plan on turning black when it gets here. I have look into using Gunkote as an alternative to Suncorite - http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...ail.aspx?p=1150 A couple of friends who build semi auto AKs use this product and swear buy it. My only reservation is matching a shade to the original British color.
