philasteen
Considering a Colt 21/28 in OK shape with numbered "L" drum just sold for $18500 + 15%, that's not really any bargain in this market.

philasteen
Here To paraphrase Arthur F., this was in a well advertised public auction that the price of 18,500 was achieved.
Z3BigDaddy
Considering a Colt 21/28 in OK shape with numbered "L" drum just sold for $18500 + 15%, that's not really any bargain in this market. Since when do colts regularly sell for under 20K with a drum? Good question Jr. They don't, this is one time thing by an auctioneer that everyone here vilifies as to not being on the up and up, yet now here he is the bell weather? Just do a search here on Devine and they all will start, "Devine sticks it up someone's ass", and then a long diatribe about his over priced auctions. Now one sells below expectations, who knows what kind of chicanery went on and he is the trend setter on low prices? Anyone here want to sell their Colt with a numbered drum for 20K? Let me know...... :soap: BTW You have been pretty quiet of late..... It's boring being the only "qualified" smart ass around here...... Roland, Headless Thompson Gunner
I recall seriously considering going to a Devine auction when I first saw what they were offering. After what I've learned on this board though I don't even bother looking at the listings. Could be others like me are just staying away from Joe's but I wished I was there for that one. I am sure many are thinking the same and will probably show up at the next auction only that time there will be crazy prices due to everyone bidding. The next auction will be a good acid test as to the prices.

colt21a
i know a few people{ non -dealer}who will have a few guns for sale around $20,000.00 or more right now with drum's. however with the current state of the economy and the m.g. market. i am not buying them for resale,or really even considering buying them at all......if anything i'd rather have $5,000.00 or less into any class three item. until after this upcoming election. and wait awhile to see what happens on the world stage. of course we have gone this route of rehashed info of price's and condition's. { even junk can sell to somebody at any one time.}remember when people threw away copper? and dental gold? who knew! i feel there is more important things on the horizon. then current m.g.price's. or the price of some drum. what a parts kit might sell for. or used brass and steel casing's.for maybe not too far in the distant future. the safe queen's and 98% Thompson's. or anything else m.g. maybe protecting the farm. the local gas station, and the food market, and bank's.{ or some are now thinning the herd, to pay for just plain living} sure we have seen trying time's before in the past.and maybe we will begin a new era. it won't take that much anymore to throw things off kilter. however i also realize that this is a fantasy website. to take our minds off the real world out there. and the day to day problem's. this is: "SPARTA" regard's Ron p.s tonight feature flic."Vincent Price" The Last Man on Earth 1964 Edited May 2, 2008 by colt21a

PhilOhio
It may not apply as much to vintage Thompsons, but we are on the threshhold of an economic time when there are going to be some real "buys" on firearms of every description. ...for those who have the cash, that is. I think I am already starting to see the general gun show signs, and a few specific examples. But for those who are all set to take advantage of this, I would say, buy the ones you want for yourself, and plan to have fun with. Don't buy anything with the intention of quickly turning it over for a nice profit. That could take a few decades; if ever. I think the entire equation is about to change. It's all about oil, and the fact that decades of political incompetence and treachery are about to start playing catch-up. This proliferation of brand new quick buck dealers is about to disappear as quickly as it appeared.
