Colt Thompson 1927a Dewat For Sale

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wanted to give anyone that is interested a heads up on a 27A Colt Thompson for sale. I previously had this listed but buyer had a problem with funds, so I am relisting this gun. It is dewated by a chamber weld, and registered on a ATF form 5. I have it listed on subguns, but if you have questions, you can reply to me here or e-mail me.

Thanks!

Rob

Rob - has this gun been refinished?

Actually, I'm not sure. The gun was wiped down with oil prior to these pictures. My dad owned the gun since 1962, so if it was refinished, it was prior to then.

The reason I ask is because the area where the markings were milled in to change it to "Model of 1927" are blued. On most of the examples I've seen, those were bare metal since the original finish was machined away. (AO apparently put another coating on top that did not last on the original guns)

not a expert on 27's but what i did own and see they all had the milled area in the white along with the lower stating semi.some collectors /dealer's whited in the area for pictures.i think Earl was one of the first to do this in his catalogs back in "69"the three i owned had semi parts,{ and another had f/a/part's}. many will come up with stories when you ask not done by me! or that was the way i bought it. or probably refinished by somebody else. which all might be true. however since everybody makes such a stick on originality of all Thompson's. 90% of them have been messed with. wood,part's metal, bolt's actuator's. barrels, compensators,in the past 87 year's.

and even those that say they have a total original { don't really know}unless the first original owner.even minty type gun's. i have seen had been touched up a little,and some refinished to perfection.or the wood was changed out. ever see triple wood on a tommy different color on all three pieces of wood.{ yep Colt and auto ord} never inspected those.and they let them fly out with that wood!{ another tale}

and i never heard that auto -ord or Colt reblued the milled area.however i have seen a few dealer's do that trick.then white it in.

as they say buy the gun, not the story. if the 27 fit's the bill or any Thompson fly with it.

just don't go ga-ga over this stuff.then be shocked.

alot of it is out there over the past fifty years, and as the prices went up. so did the tale's, and the touch up's.

many have stuff in their collection's like that. some know and some don't. and some will never admit{whatever makes you happy} who care's..

maybe like my reply to this post.WHO CARE'S.....buy what you like, whatever you can afford.and own it for your time here.{ on earth} after that somebody else will enjoy it.

its not cold,just reality. enjoy the history.... Regards Ron

p.s. i've changed over to "Greaser's." most if not all have been refinished, no actuator to clean. no blue fine finish to worry about, screws to bugger up, and fine wood to worry about.and very easy to clean...and mags and parts are out there reasonable prices. less stress in old age is a good thing.

I would have to agree, these guns are so old that there is no telling what has been done or not done to them. It is likely that mine has been reblued, but the simple fact is there are not very many of the 27's, and it does have a PD history. Thanks for the input guys, I love the wealth of knowledge on this board!
