cobra69
Is there a way to find out or a public record of registered M2 Carbines? I'm trying to find out if the serial number I was givin is registered or not? Or would I have to call the atf? Basically I'm trying to trace the serial number back to origin. hawksnest
Cobra69: The owner of the registered NFA weapon can file a freedom of information request (FOI). You will find a sample FOI letter in the FAQ. Ask the owner to see the paperwork he has for the M-2. If it is a registered M-2 the owner will have registration papers. If it is a transferable M-2 you can apply for FOI once the M-2 transfers to you. Most of the information on the FOI request/ response will be redacted, so about all you will wind up with is the various transfer dates since initial registration. Hope this helps. Just call the ATF NFA Branch and ask. They will tell you if its registered or not. Takes a whole 30 seconds to look up.
