  1. Brian, I have a cutaway example in the collection. I probably can't add a lot of technical information as there isn't much out there. A google search will yield a 1953 PDF technical report on DTIC and that's the best detailed information I've found. Unfortunately, the photos included in the report are really bad from multiple reproductions.

If you would like to see some images, I'll dig it out and post a few.

    Rick

I ended up buying it from Justin in California.

891449072 on gun broker usgi 9mm kit

That is my old M3A1 kit I used in the MGN article. Note the barrel with the longer breech end through the barrel nut and the extra front plate with the tabs cut off.

The barrel was too far away from the cartridges in the magazine and would nose dive and miss the chamber, so I extended the barrel back so it was closer to the magazine. To keep the bolt from hitting the barrel I used the extra end plate. Worked reliably after that.

I bought that kit out of the Shotgun News back in the early '90s. It was listed with a DS M3A1 and the ad stated "will not separate" I offered the seller $500.00 just for the kit, and he sold it to me. I sold the kit a long time ago, it was one of the two M3A1 kits I ever saw, most were for the M3. I had a document that I found in the National Archives that a U.S. company made Sten mags for the M3 9mm kits. I have no idea where that document is now; I may have mentioned it in the article, I don't know.

I bought the kit from you Frank many years (or decades) ago. Sold it off after I sold all my grease guns

  3. This is the trench gun

The Remington 31 is rough, but it will serve the purpose of trying it out in the FBI case. Price was not that bad....relatively speaking

There was another riot in the auction I wanted, but as a novice (at best) I referred to Bruce's book and while the gun looked right it was way out of bounds in serial number range to be correct. It still went for a bunch of money however? Went after a an S prefix Ithaca 37, but someone wanted it pretty bad.

Any input would be very welcome!

You should've posted that you were bidding on these. I was the next highest bidder on the 520

I didn't really need another one but it seemed cheap. If I knew another member wanted it, I wouldn't have bid

  4. A while ago I bought several unregistered Handy Guns

I received the barrels first, which I sent to Wayne in Oregon to be rifled

After those were shipped the receivers were sent to me

The .410's have been rifled making them legal once again

Wayne doesn't the tooling to rifle a 28 gauge

    Any leads ?

For now the receiver and the barrel are kept at two different locations

so I don't run afoul of the ATF

  5. I actually reached out to John Stimson who is the High Standard firearm expert.

I sent him the link to the Gunbroker auction as well as teh one that pre98.com has

    Here is his response.

    Hello Brian,

I have very little research about High Standard riot guns. The only
research I have seen on them in print is Thomas Swearengen's book and
    Bruce Canfield's book .

I do know enough to say that I can take issue with some comments in both
books. More in Swearengen's book because he says more. But I have not
tried to commit to paper those differences.

Unfortunately, the factory records a are not easy to use in the case of
their shotguns and since a lot of the early shotguns are not serialized
the data is not available in a serial number log.

I have found orders for police shotguns that were shipped with Service
Armament hand guards installed. I have found some that were shipped on
consignment to a few government facilities and I have found they were
returned and sold from the High Standard collection in 1980.

The two references you provided are ones I have seen before. One of the
accompanying stories talks about 1970's and a model that was
    discontinued in late 1968.

I am skeptical about the two you referenced but I have not done
sufficient research to see if I can find say these are valid or bogus.

  6. What a fantastic grouping!

I have a 25 mm with Indiana NG hard case on display at our museum here in Florida. Policemilitarymuseum.org

I have never heard whether the 12 gage version was removed from the NFA registry requirements, nor the same thing on the pistol with plastic cylinder?

What is your take on that situation? I've wondered if anyone has ever asked the Technical Branch for a ruling, but didn't want to wake the sleeping giant...

How long have you been collecting Manville items?

    Thanks for sharing.

Is this Bill? I sold you a Manville for the Florida museum many years ago. I've been collecting Manville items for close to 20 years. My understanding is the 12 gauge items cannot handle commercial shot shells without blowing apart so ATF doesn't consider them to be anything more than flare launchers
