Good memory, TD! That stamp kit was at the San Antonio Field Office. After ATF became a separate bureau the stamping was changed. The new numbers started with ATF and was followed with a 5 digit number that corresponded with the District Office that issued it. Houston District number would have been - ATF53100***. The stars signify the numeric sequence so each numbered firearm would not duplicate. In the mid ‘90’s, the Districts were changed to Divisions and the numbers again changed. Houston Division issued numbers looked like this - ATF745400***. Another change a couple of years after that looked like - ATF782000***. I don’t remember the exact dates of the changes. Hope this helps.

Have the owner take the grip off and take pics of the grip boss. My H&R is a Stemple reman and that’s where he marked them.

It can be done. I purchased a H&R Handy Gun directly from an executor. The gun had been ‘out of legal commerce’ for a short time but all it took was a copy of the death certificate and the executors signature. My WH28 also came out of an estate directly from the executrix. Get that paperwork started!

As of my retirement, ATF had a shop in HQ that handled all FOIA requests.

My thoughts exactly on the reason for the mod. There is no axis hole/center on it.

While going thru my TSMG parts (way too many), this caught my eye. Savage made buffer pilot with an added piece. Looks like it was drilled and the extra piece brazed in. The three other pilots have a nominal measurement of 4.5 oal. The oddball measures 4.72. The part that sticks out of the receiver measures 1 on the normal ones, .90 on the oddball. What do the experts think?

A number of guns at the museum are on loan from the military. On occasion, they call in their loans and the guns have to be returned. I used to volunteer at the museum and had to pack and unpack firearms and other artifacts a couple of times. I don’t remember the story behind this gun.

As a former employee, the folks at NFA will be working on a skeleton crew basis. Support for law enforcement (registry lookups) will continue as will forms processing for LE agencies. Limited dealer forms may be worked on, i.e. F3.

Some nice items at the upcoming James Julia auction. Items 1108-1111 include a couple of Auto Burglars, a 28ga Handy Gun and a Marbles Game Getter. One of the ABs has been removed from NFA status so it will be a cash and carry sale.

I got the flyer in the mail yesterday. There is some good looking stuff on there. The Lewis Gun caught my eye but my funds are locked up in a home remodel. Grrrr.

I haven’t tried blanks thru a drum mag. I’m sure it works but can’t comment on how many clicks to wind it to.

Huggy, there would be no record of that pistol kept by ATF as there is no database or registry for those firearms. If the gun was previously traced by a law enforcement entity, then there would be a record of that but only if the pistol was imported after 1968. That was when importers were required to mark imported guns and keep records of their disposition.

I picked up this little gem a couple of years ago after a gent called the office with a couple of questions regarding the gun. It was wrapped up in an old estate and ATF turned down an earlier attempt at a transfer. I worked out the kinks and made an offer. This is s/n 41783. Per Larson, a Model 2 Type III.
The gun came with a holster that I have never seen or can find anything about. Its is made of a type of oilcloth or resin cloth material with a cotton batting on the inside. It has a single loop sewn on the long straight side and closes with a round snap.

25 year retired but from the law enforcement side. I concur with Dan above. Ring up your local office and I’m sure someone from the Industry Operation side of the house will be able to assist.
