jerrys
I was just trying to put the sling on the gun, following the illustration in a 1942 War Dept M1A1 manual. BUT, the metal ends that buckle won't go through the sling swivel. Am (A) I just hopelessly confused or (http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif are the WH sling swivels not right. I have a feeling the answer is A. Help appreciated.
TSMGguy
There are various tricks to installing a Kerr sling. Assuming that you have standard sized TSMG swivels (1 1/2" loops for 1 1/4" slings), you must first snap the sling buckle upwards and onto the loop. Then, depress the spring again as you push the buckle through. Otherwise, the buckle is too big to fit through the loop, as you suggested. Easier done than said. . . The first few times you try it, you're bound to end up with the sling upside-down or reversed more than once! For the original WWI instructions, see the following link, from the board FAQs: http://www.fidnet.com/~owilly/us_kerr_slin...ier_2_pic_1.jpg
