m3bobby
I thought Id post this here for interest and reference. There is a deactivated STEN Mk1* for sale in the U.K. with the below statement/description. This is an incredibly opportunity to own probably one of VERY few original Sten Mk1*. The last and only example we have been able to find of a Sten Mk1* was sold in the USA by auction in 2014 and made over $30,000!!! We were lucky enough to find this example in a museum in Normandy which was downsizing. Price is £4195.00 so $5000??? What you would actually get is nothing more than a recent fake. http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/25534/normal_D934B2CD-F7AD-45E8-8AE3-1416B5502D95.jpeg http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/25534/normal_4A3443B5-60CD-49B4-85C4-F9C32D743504.jpeg http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/25534/normal_72531370-98D6-4D15-AAD1-51D3FD1D13E1.jpeg http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/25534/normal_A199A8B7-37A9-42C5-8072-130DCEEE3289.jpeg

m3bobby
The Mk1* has a modification at the front of the cocking handle slot like a Mk4A, any idea why its there? The Mk1 looks correct apart from the butt is a repro. Do you know the serial?
Annihilator
I have retrofitted those Stens with the early cocking handles, that's the reason why they look so bright on the pictures. I have no idea about the reason of the cocking handle slot modification on the Mk1* How do you see that the butt is a repro on the Mk1, i was not aware of that ? Serial number of the Mk1 is 53674, it is deactivated - Europe
m3bobby
The abutment plate or whatever the part that slots into the body is called, should be cast and the 2 boss for the tubes sit in these and are pinned and brazed like Bikes and motorbikes of the period. The Mk1* has the correct butt. An early butt will be marked U&U for unique and unity and the late butts have their wartime code. Ill post up a list of Mk1 and Mk1* survivors later. Can you give me the Mk1* serial also. Theres a little known or published format to the serials that fakers dont appear to known as yet.

Hopefully, the original paperwork is readily available and/or in a known location. It should clearly show the transferee (or maker) and be a clear indicator of whether it can be transferred legally.
