Armydoc0115
Hello everyone!Does anyone have and use one of the Finnish 81mm smoke throwers? If so, what are you using for a projectile and what sort of charges? I think I read once that someone was using 12ga blanks. Anyone have any input?-David
BillyDixon
we loaded old low base paper shells with pyrodex. had sone projectiles turned from alumin, later to increse the weight drilled a hole in projectle and filled with lead, these went out of sight. be sure to only use paper shells and not plastic as the shell discinergrates and plastic will melt into the firing mech. i bought my finnish chemical mortar in the 1960,s for 19.95 from springfield sporters in pa. i think they are still in business. Armydoc0115
$19.95!? Wow. Mine wasn't too expensive in the big scheme of things, but it certainly wasn't $19.95! I've always wondered why the Finns developed a launcher SPECIFICALLY for smoke. Every other country just launched smoke rounds out of their standard mortars, but the Finns designed this specifically for smoke rounds and nothing else. Weird, but makes it unique.I might take a look at trying to rig something up that is similar to what you're describing and see what I can do with it. Thanks for sharing!-David
waterdawg2004
If it is 81mm or 82mm then a Campbell soup can filled with concrete should fit. Cheap to shoot and if you lose them, no problem.
Armydoc0115
Jim, I'm starting to think that there isn't anything out there that you don't have some experience with.
