Hawkeye_Joe
Quote from an article about the Federal Lawsuit against Arizona: "The arguments will focus on a core constitutional concern — balancing power between the states and the federal government. More specifically, the issue centers on the long-running "pre-emption" legal argument that says federal law trumps state law." If that is true, then why does the Federal law that citizens can possess machineguns get trumped by state laws prohibiting them from doing so???? james m
Hawkeye: As an Arizona resident and long time reviewer of government policy all I can say is the Federal Government and certainly the individual currently occupying the White House could care less about the legalities here. The Federal Government if they chose to do their duty has the resources to shut down illegal immigration virtually overnite. There are political ramifications in doing so and since this and most boards would rather we keep politics out of our discussion I won't go into specifics. Those of you thet don't live here have no idea of the scope and magnatude of the problems caused by Illegals. However here's one number i heard on the news before that I hadn't heard quoted previously. It's is estimated that illegal immigration costs the US taxpayers 130 BILLION DOLLARS annually! I don't know what is included in this number but I expect it is conservative particularly when we know for sure here in Arizona that crimes committed by illegals are significiently underreported. I am proud of the relative freedom I enjoy as a resident of Arizona including the right to own machine guns. Our gun club just had a free machine gun shoot last Sunday and the place was packed with people. I also have the right and can carry a gun virtually anywhere I go with the only exclusions being schools and government buildings. I would lose this right immediately by traveling either 150 miles West of here(California) or 100 miles South of here (Mexico). Also please keep in mind that this illegal imigration battle we're waging is not just for Arizona it's for the rest of the Country as well. Hawkeye_Joe
I'm behind Arizona 100%, and so are most of the people I talk to. I think that it is a shame that during a resession the Govt. would waste taxpayer money suing one of our States for enforcing laws that they won't enforce themselves. hawksnest
james m and Arisona: Keep up the good fight. We are with you. I wish Ohio would pass similar legislation. We should prosecute everyone who hire illegals.
