I haven't posted here much but I thought I would share this. On my recent trip to Guadalcanal, this nice 1928a1 example was found. It was in pretty decent shape and everything functioned. (Note: It was left on the island in the hands of a collector which will be displayed in a local museum) -Brian
Once you go, FA, its hard to stop. Usually now when I go to my sheriffs depart. The lady at the desk says "holy crap, how hasn't your wife beat the hell out of you yet"
I travelled this weekend to see my Steelers take on the cardinals in Arizona. Before my flight back, I stopped in a local book store and found a MINT M1 Thompson technical manual. When I opened the manual up inside was an original packing list from AO to the Army for 10 M1 Thompsons plus all of the accesories that came with it. Of course I picked it up. Once I get back home later today I will post a photo of it. The list contains the serial numbers and maybe somebody on the boards here has one of those guns! Will post later!
I HIGHLY doubt he uses flash powder considering it is classified under 1.3G explosives and is illegal to own by civilians. It also doesnt burn like gun powder and is more explosive in nature...when the trigger would be pulled it would be like having a M80 in the chamber.
The funny part is, I used to live in Lawrence County and the sheriff there would never sign a form 4. Last spring a friend of mine took a form 4 to be signed for a Kahr M1 SBR Thompson and was refused by the sheriff for as he claimed "it was his personal decision because he didnt want that in the county" ... i just chuckle now because here we are a year later and they want to sell a full auto thompson because the sheriff wants new stuff!
I have a specialized cutts comp. that was made for blank adapting 1928's. A machinist I know made these. They are made from a single piece of steel and are blued. They screw onto the front of the barrel and then the front port is threaded for the various plugs you may need for various power blanks. The is nice because you will not have to tap the barrel of you thompson. Send me a PM if you are interested. they work great!! The cost is $100 shipped to you.
Thanks,
Brian
whats does everybody think....they were clearly using 2 different thompsons in the beginning...the one the sheriff brought had the long barrel but when they took it in the back, it had a short barrel on it.
