  1. If you've been to the Big Sandy you already know the line layout. Pretty much everyone gets there Thursday to set up. Access to the property closes at around 7PM. Plan on camping on-site as the nearest town it too far away to make it work. Friday's shooter's meeting is at 11, so back-time accordingly.

Use a pop-up canopy for shade (line spaces are 10x10) and you'll want to anchor it down very well. Those little 6" 'tent anchors" they sell at Walmart ain't going to cut it. Big Sandy is known for high winds in the Spring, any time day or night.

Bring plenty of ammo and tracers. UN Ammo is a regular vendor and usually offer free delivery to the shoot. Check their website.

And I can't say enough good things about the staff and RSO's. I've been attending for 10+ years and it has always been a safe, courteous and extremely friendly environment.

Watch out for snakes and scorpions. . .

  2. I am continuing to assist with the disposition of the estate of board moderator Sandy Jones ("OCM"), and I wanted to offer items of potential interest here first:

OOW 1918a3 Colt, Made under COLT License by Ohio Ordnance Works in 2015. One of the run of 200. It is marked on top of receiver COLT'S PT.F.A MFG.CO.HARTFORD,CT. SELF LOADING RIFLE MODEL 1918 CAL.30-06. This rifle is new, unfired with magazine, special fitted case and all accessories that came with this issue, as well as sales paperwork, They are beautifully finished -- Sandy only took this out of the box to take pictures of it and that's it. $8K plus shipping.

FFL available for shipment if your FFL will not accept from individual.

More pictures are available. Please PM me for details on this items or others Sandy may have mentioned or profiled on this forum over the years..

Thanks to David for his permission to post these items, and for your consideration.

  3. I have installed several 1918 rear sights on OOW semi auto receiver kits. In every case it required carefully dressing down of the mating faces on the 1918 sight slot surfaces to get it to seat completely forward in the receiver. In all cases, the set screw has come into alignment with the receiver hole when the sight is fully seated.

The receiver kits come without a rear sight, so I have no experience removing one. One thought is they may have parkerized the receiver with the sight body already installed. A few drops of Kroil allowed to soak overnight couldn't hurt.

  4. I am replicating a 1919 export model BAR can find no good pictures of the bipod. Does anyone have a couple of photos of the bipod so I could reproduce it? (Or know of one for sale)
The only photo I have of one is in Ballou's book, on a Chilean export model in a wide shot.
I suspect it is similar (but not the same) as the R-75 bipod . . . simpler in attaching -- (I have a couple of R-75 bipods).
    thanks for any help,

    John

  5. I've only ever been able to find photos of complete Lebman weapons, and not detail internal or component photos of a verified Lebman piece. Several line-drawings are floating around in magazine articles and in books, but none to my knowledge are verified. I don't know if they are based on speculation, or verified examination. The comp. is easy to scale from the photographs. . . the details of the FA conversion internals I have no verifiable reference.

  6. From the research that Sandy and I did, they were an evolution in form and function (perhaps revised on the feedback of the users).

    Our basic conclusions:

Some were reported to be select fire, others FA only. The grip hanger is a smaller version of a 21/28 hanger affixed to the lower frame. The compensator a simple slotted piece of tubing. I strongly suspect Lebman sourced the extended magazines from Monarch Arms or perhaps a Spanish manufacturer (I'm not sure if Star or Llama had begun to offer these in '33/34). I don't think he went to the trouble to weld together factory 7 rnd. magazines. Fore grips vary in contour, all seemingly starting with a '21 Colt grip, but recontoured and relieved to accommodate the confines of the close mount to the trigger guard.
