  1. For those who followed my other posts concerning this WH28 I have that was basically a run-away gun I believe it is fixed! The gun would continue to fire for 5 or 6 rounds when your finger was released from the trigger on semi and would empty the magazine with one pull of the trigger on full auto. I changed out every part, every single internal part twice with original Savage parts. I ordered and installed new springs. I bought an original Savage trigger frame and installed that. I tried many different magazines, different ammo, anything I could think of and nothing helped. What is frustrating is that I owned this gun before in the late 80's and it ran perfectly. Well Bob at Philadelphia Ordnance was following my posts on this. I've know Bob for 40 years and we are only a couple miles apart. He contacted me suggesting that he thought the barrel could be the culprit. Bob knows Thompson's and I value his opinion. I took the gun down to his Shop and he went over the gun checking the dimensions of the gun internally against the original Thompson drawings. This WH is a little out of spec but was likely that way since manufactured and it did work correctly before. Nothing looked worn, cracked or elongated upon inspection. When Bob checked the barrel it looked pretty well shot out. When I had the gun back in the 80's I had installed a used smooth Savage 28 barrel and comp which worked fine for years. When comparing this barrel to another barrel you could see the difference right away. Bob installed a new Savage barrel hand tight and tried the gun. It WORKED as it was suppose to! He than installed the barrel and comp to the correct torque and test fired it again. Again it worked great, but did double once. He than took it apart once more and noticed that the rocker was scoring the bolt where it shouldn't be. Inspecting the rocker found it was loose on the pivot so both the rocker and pivot he replaced and the gun test fired perfectly. I took it to the mountains today and put 100 rounds through it with different magazines. It worked perfectly and never missed a beat. I can't thank Bob enough for taking an interest in this project and actually thinking out the problem and fixing it. The barrel was bad. We both are thinking that with the barrel bad it was probably letting just enough gas leak past the cartridge to cause short cycling of the bolt. Amazing! Thanks to all for the suggestions and help. Larry
  2. I am in the mist of scanning some old photos of my Dad from WWII in the Philippines and came across these two. He was a Medic and had many a tale to tell. I still remember growing up with the thick scabs I'd get from all the Sulpha Powder he would pour on any cut or scrape I'd get. In the second picture of him playing the enemy I still have all everything he's holding. He's gone now but still missed. Larry
  3. Well I'm hoping the stock will fit and that this affair will be over with! I'm also hoping to have the lower from Omega within a couple weeks. Talked with the person I purchased this back from today. "always ran great for me, I never had any issues with it" I guess that's possible but I sure find it tough to comprehend. Can't lose sleep over it though. I'll update this when the lower comes in. Thanks to all for the help!!! Larry
  4. Thanks for the info on Omega. I ordered a stripped one today. Says it's in excellent condition, DuLite finish and charged $150.00 for it. I do hope this solves the problem with this WH. I'll let you know when I get the new lower!! Larry
  5. As I mentioned in my last post I purchased a 1928 WH that I had owned in the late 80's and just purchased it back. It was always a great running gun. When I first got it back in the 80's I had replaced all internals with Savage parts and the gun never missed a beat. Now however this gun won't stop running and that's the problem. Semi or Full auto one pull of the trigger will empty the magazine. Not a safe situation! So far I have replaced every single internal part of this gun. As was mentioned I ordered new springs or as new as I could find and installed them. Also a new blish block was placed in a new bolt. Yesterday I had a chance to try it out. Results.......nothing has changed!! It's still a runaway gun!. I had also taken my original Savage M1 with me yesterday. After being disgusted with the 28 and just before packing up for the day I remembered that Chris on this sight mentioned he had a similar experience at some time and switched lowers with a GI lower and his problem was fixed. So I switched the M1 lower frame onto the 28. Results? The 28 ran absolutely perfectly!!! Fiocchi, Federal American Eagle and Remington ammo it worked perfect. So at this point it I think it is obvious that something has gone array with the WH 28 lower frame. Maybe shot enough by prior owner to elongate holes or something. So now my quest is to find an original 28 lower. A blued one is preferred but a 28A1 parkerized would be fine as I would just park the entire gun. But I know it has to be an original GI lower. What do you think? Anyone know where to look for a REAL 28 lower? Many Thanks Larry
  6. Thanks I'll change out all the lower springs and try it out. Hope it isn't the ammo as I have a lot of it! Larry
  7. I have a WH 28 that I originally owned in the late 80's and recently purchased back. It always ran perfect with all Savage internals.....until now. It will fire a multiple burst when on semi and will continue to run on full auto when you take your finger off the trigger. Now yesterday I replaced every single internal part again with new Savage parts....everything except the actuator and blish block. The ammo I have been using is new Fiocchi 230 FMJ. Is it possible it could be the ammo? Reason I ask is that I did fire an older brown box of Winchester military ball through it and it seemed to work fine but of course I only had one box. Fiocchi says the ammo produces 860FPS at the muzzle. I did try different length springs to no avail. Primer strikes do seem light. Any ideas to rectify this? Thanks Larry
  8. I'm the guy who is selling the Bridgeport 1928 "PD" gun on Subguns for $17,500.00. Please don't confuse me with another guy selling one for $25,000. The ad in Subguns is the only ad I've placed for this gun with the exception of it just having been listed on Guns America at the same price. I've not edited the ad or changed the price, it's always been at $17,500. These must be two completely different guns unless he stole my picture somehow. Larry NE, PA
