For those who followed my other posts concerning this WH28 I have that was basically a run-away gun I believe it is fixed! The gun would continue to fire for 5 or 6 rounds when your finger was released from the trigger on semi and would empty the magazine with one pull of the trigger on full auto. I changed out every part, every single internal part twice with original Savage parts. I ordered and installed new springs. I bought an original Savage trigger frame and installed that. I tried many different magazines, different ammo, anything I could think of and nothing helped. What is frustrating is that I owned this gun before in the late 80's and it ran perfectly. Well Bob at Philadelphia Ordnance was following my posts on this. I've know Bob for 40 years and we are only a couple miles apart. He contacted me suggesting that he thought the barrel could be the culprit. Bob knows Thompson's and I value his opinion. I took the gun down to his Shop and he went over the gun checking the dimensions of the gun internally against the original Thompson drawings. This WH is a little out of spec but was likely that way since manufactured and it did work correctly before. Nothing looked worn, cracked or elongated upon inspection. When Bob checked the barrel it looked pretty well shot out. When I had the gun back in the 80's I had installed a used smooth Savage 28 barrel and comp which worked fine for years. When comparing this barrel to another barrel you could see the difference right away. Bob installed a new Savage barrel hand tight and tried the gun. It WORKED as it was suppose to! He than installed the barrel and comp to the correct torque and test fired it again. Again it worked great, but did double once. He than took it apart once more and noticed that the rocker was scoring the bolt where it shouldn't be. Inspecting the rocker found it was loose on the pivot so both the rocker and pivot he replaced and the gun test fired perfectly. I took it to the mountains today and put 100 rounds through it with different magazines. It worked perfectly and never missed a beat. I can't thank Bob enough for taking an interest in this project and actually thinking out the problem and fixing it. The barrel was bad. We both are thinking that with the barrel bad it was probably letting just enough gas leak past the cartridge to cause short cycling of the bolt. Amazing! Thanks to all for the suggestions and help.
