So did the Germans make a 4 slot MP40 ammo pouch that slung over the shoulder as well as the 3 slot pouch that hung from belt, or was that some type of thompson pouch?

In the movie "Kelly's Heroes" Kelly and a few others are wearing what looks like German MP 40 Ammo Pouches, but the have "slots" for 4 magazines instead of 3, and are carried slung over the shoulder. Does anyone know what type of ammo bags those are?

How many 30 rnd mags could fit in the ammo bag slung over the shoulder?

Which was more prevalent/preferred method of carrying 30 round Thompson magazines -- using the ammo bag slung over the shoulder or using an ammo pouch attached to the pistol belt? What were the strength/weakness, advantages/drawbacks to each method?

Would the thompson mags fit in the MP40 pouch "side to side" as in a regular thompson ammo pouch, or would they fit "front to back"?

I recall seeing a photo of a First Special Service Force Lt. marching into Rome. You can't see what weapon he is armed with, but you can clearly see that he is wearing a German MP40 ("Schmeisser") magazine pouch. This brings up an interesting question -- could Thompson 30 round magazines fit in a MP40 mag pouch?
