  1. I’m looking at two 1928 Auto Ordinance Thompsons

The first is a reactivation, the receiver was saw cut on the right side of the receiver behind the ejection port. It was only cut on one side, not completely though. Gun was repaired, refinished and is in excellent condition. It has all inspector and ordinance markings.

The second gun is an uncut gun that was refinished in a deep Colt blue. It has a Colt front grip and buttstock with the upside-down anchor, the gun was made to mimic a Colt Thompson. All inspector and ordinance markings were removed.

The gun is also in excellent condition.

Which gun you would consider as an occasional shooter and why?

    Thanks

  2. QUOTE (Arthur Fliegenheimer @ Jun 17 2006, 05:13 PM)
The Colt Navy stock might have an offset Enfield sling swivel as would the horizontal fore grip. It would not have the WWII type stamped or machined swivel.

The Remington/Colt vertical foregrip is unmistakable when held. Like S&W "Coke" grips on a pre 29 .44 Magnum. The vertical on ebay has an arch cutting upward into the straight and flat portion of the grip that aligns the grip mount.

The finish on the wood of Colt 1921, as is the bluing on the buttplate and metal hardware, and of course the "nickel"  latch is different from WWII. This needs to be seen in person for true clarity, as pics are troublesome.  But as to the thumb release area around the buttstock latch, here are some pics. The first is a Colt 1921 type and the 2nd is a WWII era type:

    Arthur,

I’m confused; can you post a picture of the “nickel†latch on a 21 buttstock slide?

I think your talking about the latch in the metal slide that locks into the lower, is that correct?

    Thanks

  3. I know there are some transferable Colt Thompson guns that are in poor or very poor condition. These guns would not be as collectable as guns rated higher.

Do you consider refinishing the wood and metal?

Do you leave it as is and consider it part of the history of the gun?

What effect will refinishing have on the value of a gun in poor original condition?

  4. I did a search on subguns.com and sturmgwehr.com for Colt Thompson.
