  1. guys - don't want to hijack the thread, but what's an SBR?
  2. So, to dovetail to the other thread I started - I mentioned that I was looking to swap my 1928 parts kit for an M1A1 kit. I listed it on 1919a1.com, and right away found a gentleman that was interested in a trade. After a couple of e-mails, he stated that he is hesitating because he was told that the M1A1 kits are harder to find and going for a premium, so he wasn't sure is it was a fair trade. So I ask you guys your collective opinion - this is the total of the swap - fair or one-sided? Me: -complete Savage 1928 kit with smooth barrel and horizontal foregrip, "L" sights and Cutts compensator - very good condition. -extras included: new repro finned barrel, repro Lyman sights, repro vertical foregrip w/ screw & mount, extra NOS buttstock slide, 80% blued P.O. receiver (no additional machining or engraving). Him: M1A1 kit - similar condition, shrouded rear sight Extras: extra bolt, alluminum dummy receiver, torch-cut original receiver parts. Even if the M1 kits are slightly higher (not sure), I figured with the extras, it's a pretty even split. What say you?
  3. Thanks for the info guys!! I blocked out the serial numbers because that's what it seems like a lot of people do on "the net," but here are the numbers for both the kit and the rifle: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/kit5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/thompson7.jpg In regard to the finish, I'm guessing the "blanchard" finish is the little "scratches" rather than a smooth finish? If you can't see it in the pics, the rifle DOES have that sort of scratched finish under the park. ha - upon closer inspection, the "8" is indeed the bomb stamp.
  4. I know I have too many questions - but here's another anyway ;-) I was thinking of looking for an M1 or M1A1 kit swap for my 1928 kit. Is that reasonable? Are the prices of the kits comparable? Do you guys think I'd be able to find a trade partner, or are the M1/M1A1 kits harder to find?
  5. Another question - hard to see in the pics, but the front of the receiver is a shade darker than the back. I noticed the sme on my 1911 slide - is that some sort of effect from the heat of fired cartriges?
  6. Thanks for the info - yeah, looks like the rivets are parked and not bright, so I guess it's refinished. Anybody know what the "8" and "GEG" stamps are towards the front of the receiver?
  7. The butt stock and horizontal grip have British Army modifications. Ross Are you referring to the swivel placement? I can see that the butt stock had the swivel moved from the bottom to the top. How 'bout those screws through the front? It's not cracked or anything - I assume that was to reinforce to prevent cracking?

  9. Hi guys - First post! I've always bee a huge fan of Thompsons, and when I was a teen in the nineties, my father purchased a 1928A1. He has since handed it down to me. As far as I can tell, it's a numbers matching 1928A1 made by Savage. I ASSUME it may have been refinished, but that's just a guess because the finish looks so nice. Any info you guys can provide would be awesome! What do you think its value would be? Here are some pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/Thompson4-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/thompson1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/Thompson2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/thompson6.jpg I also bought a kit myself when i was young - again in the mid nineties - can't recall where I bought it. This also looks like a Savage kit - not numbers matching, though. Everything is marked "S". Along the way I bought a 80% receiver from Philly Ord., and new finned barrel, repro Lyman sights, and a repro vertical foregrip. Looks like it has M1 selector and safety. Anybody know anything about a kit like this? Are they common, and how much do the go for - with the extras I have with it? Here are pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/danmc77/Kit2-1.jpg
