  1. Hello Board members, it's my understanding, based upon posts to this Board, that PK is moving toward full time or part time retirement. Given that fact, and even if it's untrue, the line at PK's door has probably not diminished to any considerable extent, does anyone know of a good Thompson smith who can competently fit GI parts to a WH gun? If you know of one who can do this work, especially if that Thompson smith can do any of the work that PK has done on WH guns, your experience with that Thompson smith, as well as all contact information would be much appreciated. Thanks, ajagtype
  2. Hello JJX, would you send me your email address please?

  4. I'm seriously considering buying an M1A1 and have 2 questions for those on this website more knowledgeable than I am about that particular Thompson model. My questions are: 1. Does the riveted version of the front grip mount on the M1A1 accept the vertical forearm? 2. Is there a source for parkerized barrels, either finned or unfinned, with the Cutts compensator? Thanks a bunch
  5. WTS: WH 1928 and accoutrements - $18,500 + shipping. C&R gun. I’ve owned this gun since 2013 but shot it very little. SN 1986A. Arthritis forces sale. Gun is on PK’s wait list with remaining time of perhaps a year (?). Also selling with the gun: IMA “super select” GI parts kit (IMA kit installed in gun; original WH parts included in this sale, incl. bbl), 2 drums, 13 XXX box mags of various mfgr and 5 XX mags mostly A-O, 1 genuine tan Kerr sling, 1 green web sling, 1 additional 10” 1928 bbl (fins and compensator), Doug Richardson pilot and urethane buffers (installed in gun), full set of new woods (incl. 2 forward grips) professionally finished to match Colt wood, spare horizontal grip, spare bolt, LL Bean padded aluminum 4 lock shipping/travel case, black nylon tactical/range case, and other misc. Gun last shot fall of 2017, ran well. Thanks to Dave for post approval. On Form 4 in Montana. Price takes all. Contact ajagtype@earthlink.net
  6. Has anyone counted the number of Colt, Savage, Bridgeport, and WH Thompsons for sale at Jim Julia's auction on March 21-23 (Fairfield, Maine)? I estimate the number to be about 70, but it's easy to lose track. This auction may set some records for years to come, certainly in the number of Thompsons for sale at one auction.
  7. Thanks to all. I am on PK's list now. He has said it will be "at least three years" before he can call for my WH. I don't have the WH yet; I'm awaiting my stamp. As I mentioned, I've received my Savage parts kit from IMA and am having it cleaned up while I wait for BATF approval. I will plan on using the 1/2 inch USGI forward grip mount that came with the parts set. I'll have all of the Savage parts put into the gun, along with Doug Richardson's buffer and pilot, before I try to shoot it, pending the work by PK. Thanks again to all members who responded.
  8. Yesterday the USGI parts kit for my 1928 WH arrived from IMA. The kit includes all the wood, lower receiver (in heavy grease), Barrel (including the Cutts compensator), Lyman rear sight, bolt, and a small bag including the recoil spring, oiler, forward grip mount. buffer pilot and buffer, and some small parts I don't recognize. Because I paid for a hand selected set, the parts, especially the wood, are in amazingly good condition for being 70 years old. Based upon the advice from members of this board, I've also ordered Doug Richardson's pilot and buffer and contacted PK to reserve my place in his lineup to get my WH tuned to his standards. Also based on the advice of board members, I intend to have the USGI parts installed before the gun goes to PK, so that I can shoot it safely. I have several questions for those members of this board who own West Hurleys: (1) is any good gunsmith capable of installing my parts set (including the barrel and forword grip mount) and the items ordered from Doug W. ?, and (2) is the WH set up to receive the Savage 1/2" forward grip mount or a 3/4" forward grip mount like my AO semi auto 1927? Thanks again board members.
  9. Thank you all for sharing your experience with the West Hurleys and the very generous advice you've given. My first questions have been well answered but I'll try to wring a little more free advice out of some of you with these next questions raised by your very helpful responses: (1) what is likely to be the difference between the $500 parts sets and the $1,500 or $1,750 parts sets (other than no barrel at the $500 rock bottom price)? (2) does anyone know of any other gunsmiths other than PK (he appears to ge the TSMG guru but his list is L-O-N-G) who work on the TSMGuns who can solve the problem with the WH bolt locking slots? Thanks again for all your advice.
  10. As a recent purchaser of a West Hurely (WH) Thompson, and a new user of Machinegunboards, I have noticde that in some advertisements of WH thompsons for sale, the seller advertises the WH as having "military internal parts". From what I've read of the later produced WHs, this swap of parts is done because of quality isses. Can anyone tell me (1) which WH parts have the most frequent qulity issues and therefore should be swapped with military parts (2) what is a reliable source for those parts (3) the approximate cost of the parts that should be changed out and (4) whether the swap of militaary parts improves or hurts the valye of the WH TSMG, which is otherwise in excellent condition. I bought the WH ONLY for purposes of shooting it and not as a "safe queen". Hope someone out there can help me with this. Thanks.
