  1. I fired my 1927 A1 with the EZ pull springs the other day. The only problem I had was a misfeed of the last two rounds from one of my XX mags. The other XX and the XXX fired all rounds, but the bolt did not lock back when empty. I was firing reloads with 230gr FMJ above 5.3gr of Universal. I will try the offending mag with factory rounds the next time I take it to the range. Also, the gun is still new with only a couple hundred rounds through it. I am hoping for it to improve with time. The new springs did make firing the gun more enjoyable since the bolt was much easier to cycle manually. Don, Should I put the 'gorilla springs' back in for a while during break in? Thanks Bill Edit: Changed 5.7gr Universal to 5.3gr
  2. I received my EZ Pull springs from ReconBob today. I just installed them and it makes a huge difference. I notice that the end of the hammer spring pilot no longer sticks out of the back of the receiver, but us slightly recessed now. I guess that makes sense, since the kit added the buffer inside and it holds the pilot further into the receiver. Going to shoot it tomorrow and see how it goes. Bill
  3. He should have applied for a patent and then required either payment or a royalty on all units sold. If this is true, it is too bad the original inventor was left out. Sounds like what a major motor company did to another guy that built the first intermittent windshield wipers. Bill
  4. My problem with Thompson mags was that I bought 2. One fit fine and the other would not lock in. After a close inspection I noticed that the witness holes were on opposite sides. I thought that strange. Then I closely inspected the mag lock hole in each mag, one was slightly oval, but the other looked top be perfectly round. A few minutes with a round file and now both lock in fine. Both were brand new in Auto Ordnance packaging and were simply labelled to fit Thompson Carbine. No mention of FA or Semi. Bill
  5. Eventually all 45 ACP will be Small Pistol Primer brass. The manufacturers are slowly phasing out Large Pistol Primers to standardize and save cost. Also SPP has less lead based compounds so it is better for indoor shooting. The good news is that SPP will work fine in your reloads, but it will require sorting the brass by type until all LPP is gone. Bill
  6. The length of the buttstock is a problem for me. The LOP measures 17" to the center of the butt plate. The LOP on a rifle is usually 14" and since I am only 5' 6" I am really stretched out whenever I mount to the shoulder for accurate fire. I am considering a shorter stock to reduce the LOP to 15 1/2" or 16" at the most. Has anyone done this, and if so, how did it affect the balance and aesthetics of the gun? Thanks Bill
