  1. Thanks for the response deerslayer, and that is exactly my question....why is swapping to the 1/2 instead of the 3/4 mount worth it? Does the 1/2 horizontal foregrip have a different appearance than the 3/4 horizontal foregrip? Or is it just to have the ability to use older G.I. wood(with character)? I have no barrel installed on my receiver right now, so Im trying to decide if swapping mounts when I have the barrel installed is worth it to me? I guess I just want to know the allure?
  2. I have a few questions. Im going to be redoing my sbrd 27a1 in the near future. I seem to remember reading that it is wise to change out the forward grip mount at the same time as a barrel change on the semi autos. Can anyone explain to me why this is something worth doing? Are the original grips different? Do the horizontal grips look any different on originals? I had a smooth 10.5 barrel installed, but removed it with plans to have a finned barrel installed.
  3. It's hard to believe this happened almost a year ago. Last summer sandman1957 hooked me up with this grip. If I remember correctly, deerslayer custom made this 1928 profile grip from a m1 grip so it fits the 1927a1 lower. So here's my 1927a1, completely done, and IMO looking gorgeous http://i63.tinypic.com/2aaescz.jpg
  4. The trick is to find a woman that likes guns.....than you can buy her her own machine gun for special occasions(birth of your child, wedding present, anniversary, etc.). Then when you use it more than she does, that's just icing on the cake! But anyways,OP, have you held a Thompson? FA or SA? They are not light guns, by any means. Adding a suppressor on the end would almost make it a bench gun. I'm sure it can be done, but there must be a reason it's not seen much, if at all. As far as the sight on top, I have a friend, who actually frequents the FA board here that had one on his FA Thompson. He uses it in subgun matches as well. Your definitely on the right track....make sure you go the sbr route....these guns almost require the short barrel. The 16" barrel is obnoxious, because it throws the balance off. Good luck!
  5. I prefer GI stuff personally. So I build my AR's as "clones" of what the military uses. As far as rails.... Daniel Defense RIS II for free float and KAC RAS for non free float(and if your keeping the FSB). Those are my recommendations, there are others but they are getting extremely specific and they don't really work with what you have as a base there.
  6. Now I've been noticing that my pivot plate seems to be pushing itself out of the receiver. It can only go so far, to the point that the safety lever section stops it, but it's a little annoying that it doesn't stay flush pressed up against the receiver anymore. Anyone ever see this? I've removed it and reinstalled it maybe like 6 times in the past few months. Is this normal that is pushes itself out, or is this part worn now too?
  7. Based on the way he asked, I assumed he was filing individually. My apologies, and if you are filing using a trust, some of my info is a little off.
  8. I haven't done of the new post 41f forms(which is what you have there which requires notification to your local law enforcement. So I'll help where I can. 1-model is just TM1 in your case 2-barrel is 10.5" overall is 32" 3-collection, investment, any other lawful purpose 4-your name, your city and state(this is what needs to be engraved on your Thompson upper or barre after you receive the approved stamp. 5-all need to be originals and originals are what must be submitted, you can make a copy for yourself, but the other three need to be original. 6-you send it to them 7-not sure here 8-KAHR with their address which I think is MA? 9-I think you still need them, you need to get the blue FBI cards from the ATF, they will mail them to you. You can do them yourself, or you can have them taken at your local police department. Hope this helps! Good luck!
  9. Yea I do remember when you did the work and posted it, it's just been a while, but I'll take a look again. I guess then I'll leave mine as is, although I do prefer the '28 look, and I'm sure I'd prefer the feel as well. I didn't realize that the 27a1 used the m1 grip, as that's what I was going for, I might as well leave it alone then. Thanks for the info Jon!
  10. Oh ok so the grip above on mine is correct for an m1/m1a1? If I wanted to put a '28 grip on, I would have to modify the lower?
  11. Just want to verify, a standard GI pistol grip will fit a semi auto lower correct? I have the older AO grip on mine, and I'm just tired of the massive size and bulkiness of the grip, I can barely wrap my hand around it and it's awkward shape. Hoping that I can put the real thing on it! http://i68.tinypic.com/244v8zp.jpg
  12. Figured I'd make a new thread.... My lower small parts looked very damaged and the bolt Would not hold open and the trigger would not reset, so I picked up all new parts.... SO here is a bunch of photos of damaged parts. I reassembled the lower, and realized that now pulling the trigger does not cause the gun to "fire" I can't hear the firing pin get hit anymore. So then I really paid attention to the differences in the disconnector, is this modified, worn, or how they used to look? I put the old disconnector back in and everything works perfectly..... Should I modify the new disconnector to look like the old one? http://i63.tinypic.com/35a6fpd.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/j5xd7d.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/2rvz9xc.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/vdlrow.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/8vz24p.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/2w2j4n7.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/1zxw35u.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/zkj29g.jpg
  13. Anyone have any ideas? My disconnector and possibly my firing pin look suspect IMO....
  14. I'll get some pics up later today hopefully. The parts came in this morning so I'll rebuild the lower as well. I really am wondering if the short barrel can be blamed because of the higher blowback pressure. This spring kit was probably designed with a 16" 27a1 barrel in mind, not the subgun barrel..... Any thoughts on this?
  15. I just had a huge amount of wear to my FCG and my bolt....don't know if the EZ pull spring kit is to blame...... Almost everything in the fire control group was either worn down, to the point of not catching on each other, or peened over on edges. My trigger would fail to reset, and my bolt could not be held back anymore. The firing pin even appears to have some wear. This all happened about 100 rounds after installing the EZ pull spring kit. I'm unsure whether the parts were just poor quality and this was going to happen either way, or the kit caused the excessive wear. I just ordered the new parts, so I will install them with the stock springs and shoot a few hundred rounds. If everything seems fine I will then reinstall the lighter springs and see what happens. Just wanted anyone reading to be aware, that there is a slight possibility of excessive/premature wear on parts. But not confirmed at this point. I will add that this occurred after a short barrel was installed, so I'm not sure if the blowback operation is effected by the short barrel with these springs?
  16. Will the current KAHR/AO T1 fire control group parts fit an earlier WH 1927a1? My Thompson has the older firing pin....can I buy a new production bolt and use the new production firing pin?
  17. I had a ring sight pinned on my 10.5" by PK. I like the m1 look better. No negatives, only positives!
  18. ^absolutely. I probably overdue it with grease. But for these pictures I cleaned the hell out of it first, so I could get the best pictures I could of the wear.
  19. I've already fully disassembled, cleaned up(deburred), reassembled the fire control group, which didn't help. I'd say these parts are shot. I just hate knowing I'm taking a chance on kahrs quality with new parts. This gun has no more than 500 rounds through it total. I think it was built around 1990, I have the date somewhere.
  20. Damn! But hopefully better made parts solves the issue. Also, any issues with a new bolt being thrown in? Is it just drop in, or does it need to be headspaced?
  21. That's what I was thinking. I bought the gun pretty much unfired, so I'm the one kind of working the kinks out of an old gun. Are the new parts from AO case hardened better? The bolt is showing signs of wear also.....opinion on that? I did smooth out the burs....same problem. The edges being peened over are not catching like they should.
  22. That helps angus, I was beginning to think I was alone on the semi auto forum! I haven't found anything on anyone having these issues before(that posted about it online anyways).
